XP Disc

XP won't boot up on my parents pc. It says it needs an XP disc to run something to reboot it. (Can't remember the exact details or error messages)

Anyway the issue is that the PC was bought with XP already installed and no disk included. What do people normally do in these situations? Is there a disk I can borrow/buy or would I have to go out and buy a new XP Package? All I really want is to get at the files I have on the Hard Drive.

Any help would be much appreciated:)

If a PC doesn't come with an installation CD it usually has the files on a recovery partition on the hard disk. What make is it?

Boot the PC into Safe mode and you will find the recovery on the E drive

    What is the exact message?

I get a few calls like this and the "need a file" message is often from some junk application that was half installed and then half uninstalled (MSN, skype etc. etc.).

What could be neded is to remove the source of the message.

    have fun
