If your looking for how many hits a website gets then check out www.alexa.com, if you want to find out how many hits your own website is getting, then check out www.sitemeter.com

hi, i tried all of the sites mentioned above before and were of no help.when i entered a website name into the alexa.com website it came up no data, or not in top 100,000. this site seems to be ok for bigger companies but not small ones. just typed in carzone.ie and got the % of global internet users using this site, and its ranking in ireland. i checked out the google/.com/insight/search.typed in the products and just got some graphs and charts. i need numbers? but thanks alot for replying.

it depends how much time and money you want to spend on it ,to do it all by yourself will take a good bit of reading

I would weigh this up against the hours spent reading and getting a pro to do the job

someone who knows what theyre doing and does this for a living will do in a couple of hours what might take you a couple of weeks or even more than that

also depends on the keywords and what kind of site iit is ,some areas have more competition than others

check out quarkbase.com this is the best i've found so far.

    quarkbase is good,

http://www.websiteoutlook.com/.......this is quite useless, it counts every page view as if someone clicked on an ad,(which is far from true)

It just valued my blog at $1000, which is just laughable!

all of these sites are useful but none of them seem to give you numbers. and by numbers i dont mean charts and graphs but hits on the particular website you want to check out. i dont want to now if a website is the 45372th most visited website in the country and i dont want to know what % of internet users in the world that a site attracts, thats all a little too vague and to be honest, a lot more than a little above my head.

That information is impossible to attain Suey unless the webmaster chooses to give it to you. The sites posted on this thread are not useful for what you want.

http://www.quantcast.com/ is exact - BUT only if the webmaster agreed to get published on their site which in fairness is confidential information.

Otherwise, it's just like Alexa.com etc i.e. an estimate and these are way off in most cases.

Are you looking for figures to advertise?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 805 ✭✭✭suey71

no i dont want to advertise. im writing a business plan and want to find out how much traffic my future compediters are getting. if i can work out their hits then hopfully i can work out the kind of sales they are achieving. i just want to be thorough, so when i go to a lender i will have factual statistics rather than an educated guess. bottom line is, i dont want to be caught out at the last minute. thanks again.

I'm new to this game myself Suey, I'm in the process of setting up my first company so I know what you're going through.

First things first though, are any of your competitors international? If so, is there a way you can ask them directly, explain the situation, come across as ethical and try get some information?

Another thing, most projected figures in business plans are total an utter BS, unless you are developing something IT related with huge potential, it's generally hard to anticipate sales because in truth, nobody knows how anyone will do.

90% of people make educated guesses and provided they are indeed an accurate estimate and go in line with the rest of the facts and of course that they agree with your idea, I don't see how it could be too much of a problem.

Maybe some of the Pro's who've been through it before can correct me or help you further.

Checking the webserver logs and filtering them you'd see what pages were being visited probably
