Anyone know the story on jobs at the mo ? or at least subbing ... ?

Is subbing all gone 'inhouse' because of the recession?

Im teaching in the UK but its slave labour over there!

I'm not a teacher but I know that there is restrictions on hiring. Friend is a principal in a school and despite have open roles she is not allowed to hire. I'd stay in the UK a little longer if I were you

thanks for responding to my message.

So your friend can't hire anybody for the jobs she has available? I dont understand. You mean she cant hire anybody from outside her current staff?

Financial management in the public sector in Ireland is a little primitive. Instead of saying "your budget is X, live within it", the govt have imposed hiring freezes, effectively saying "we don't trust you to live within the budget", so we're going to force you to.

It's possible to get exemptions - for example, a local primary school in Galway really wants to replace a school traffic warden who's left, so they have to ask the Minister of Finance if they're allowed. I have no idea who will stop the kids getting killed on the road if he says no.

the pay is much worse all over the world as irish teachers are the best paid in europe with the best pensions also. a newly qualified primary teacher with a good degree can expect to earn 36k in their first year. crazy !
