I had to get rid of my Sky and get NTL back in as the 'managment' company removed my dish , I subscribed to NTLs digital max pack and PVR for 38.50 per mth, as iam not into sports I would like the movie pack also - just wondering if there worth getting for the extra €30?

    Thanks in advance

The Sky Movies package is woefully overpriced, especially considering recent DVD's are available for as little as E3.99 in the likes of HMV and online.

I had Sky Movies until recently and I dont miss it at all. You tend to find yourself watching the same films over and over again just because they're on. The main reason I kept the movies package for so long was because I had Sky HD and could get the HD versions and Anytime, but even at that it's still overpriced.

Just think of the amount of Blu Rays or DVD's you could get with 30 euro a month.

I'd post the opposite view to Celtic FC.

For €30 a month, at say €3 a pop, you'll only get 10 DVDs, and not necessarily new ones. Let's be really generous, and say €1 a pop, then you get 30 DVDs.

Compare that with Sky Movies, where you get 9 unique channels (Premiere+1 is just repeats), and say you get an average of 6 films a day per channel. That's 54 films a day = 1620 films a month.

CelticFC is right that there are repeats, so let's say for arguments sake that 50% of those films are repeats. Then you still get 800+ films a month.

Of course, as time goes on, you'll probably get more repetition, but if you find you're getting the same films over and over again, just pay your €10 downgrade fee and cancel the Movies pack.

There's a fair point in there, but I wouldn't subscribe for long term again.

Perhaps ordering a month at a time is a good idea eg. around Christmas or Oscars/awards season.

Also if you have a lot of time on your hands (unlike me most of the time) you may well get better value.

I agree with celticfc. Sky Movies is a rip off. In my case I watched a lot of movies on it for 2 weeks and then it was just repeats and premieres of crap I had no interest in watching. There are too many channels imo.

I've wanted to want to get Sky movies for about 7 years now, I've just never really been able to justify it though. Even when I look to see what's on, I see quite a lot of "Oh I'd probably watch that." However if I really wanted to, I'd have watched it already.

I agree with CelticFC. having Sky Movies for the first two weeks is great. After that period you notice that the same films on all 9 channels are being regurgitated in a two week cycle. They introduce a couple of new high profile films each week on Sly Premier, but thats it. The rest are just repeats.
There used to be a channel called Film 4 Extreme that showed Indie films from the last 10-20 years. They had an Andy Warhol season, a Rainer Werner Fassbinder season, a Cocteau season. etc...
Not to everybodys taste, but at least interesting. Why can't Sky's Indie Movie channel show more films of this type?

Film Four killed it as it was making a loss. Not enough wierdos around I guess or else the ones that are about are not a valuable enough demographic for the advertisers

Not wierdo films, not every film studio is based in Hollywood.
Memorable movies on this channel included Koyanaskatsi (I recommend this to non wierdos too), More, Pi.

I meant the wierdos who watch these films but in general I agree it would be brilliant to have an outlet for movies that are off the mainstream.

I would put myself in the weirdo category when it comes to movies. I remember wanting that channel. I think if Sky did something like that I would consider getting it then.

Yep, I prefer off stream movies too. FilmFour has a few every now and again but a dedicated channel would rule. I don't check it that often as I don't have it but is that not what Sky Movies Indie is for?

That is it, you even end up watching ones you have on DVD! There are also no ads, which at first sounds grand but you have no toilet or beer breaks!

upc only carry 10 of the 12 movie channels provided by sky via satelite, the satelite also carries many more non subscription movie channels true movies etc.

upc,s only unique movie channel is MGM movies.

just an observation not a picking of sides or price comparison.
