What's the best courses to play at a reasonable green fees price?

Have played Seapoint and at €50-60 it's just too pricey.

    Anyone any experience?

New Headford course in Kells, some challenge there

€50 is a bit steep but it's worth it.

I agree with the previous poster. Id rather play once on Headfort New than ten times on anything else nearby.
I always quite liked Bellewstown. It gets a bit of stick from time to time but its great value, you will always get on there, the views are great and its definatly a challenge. It can get very soggy though.
What you could do if you wanted to go back and play Seapoint is get one of them greenfree vouchers. I know Seapoint accept them as ive used them there before and it means that you and a mate will get out for the price of just one green fee so its essentially half price. One of the golf magazines are giving away one of these vouchers in this months edition - golf monthly or one of them.

Haven't played it yet but you can play Headfort (New or Old) from about €35/€40 if you book through teetimes.ie. I heard Headfort New is a great course.

Laytown and Bettystown is one i'd highly recommend. It's not long, but it's challenging and always in wonderful nick. Particularly the greens. It's a great links course and not expensive either.

    Try Ashbourne.
€20 before 10am €25 after 10am (midweek). Its not up to the same standard as Headfort but it is a very pleasant course with good greens.
Food in the clubhouse is super too...

    Thanks for the information guys.

I've been looking a knightsbrook for a couple of months now, definitely on my agenda.

Thanks for the heads up about Seapoint, wasn't aware of that.

I've played Bellewstown a couple of time, it's just too hilly and not enjoyable at all.

Going to check out concra wood, havent heard of it before, thanks a mill fellas.

I've played Trim (county meath) a good few times. It's a nice straightforward parkland course, not in the same league as headford, but if you're not a single figure golfer you'll come back in with a few extra golf balls!

Sorry to hear you don't like Bellewstown - I thought it was a lot of fun. There are a couple of threads on here about the brilliant Concra Wood - a long one started by Kingshankly. And as for Knightsbrook - it's not my favourite and you need to be a long hitter to get the full benefit of it. I'd choose Headfort ahead of it any day.
    Good luck

Concra wood is quite hilly as well. The stretch of holes down by the water were really enjoyable but I have to say it wasn't as good as I thought it would be... just my opinion though

Greenore is a lovely course, first hole a fairly tough PAR 3 over 200 yards nearly always into the wind.......

Can anyone tell me what this course is like, and what's the green fee?

Just wondering can anyone give any information or tips about Seapoint?? It’s quite long I take it, I’m playing in a team event so I’m sure the course will be playing a little shorter. Playing it shortly and hope the weather is a damn site better than today!

Seapoint is a terrific course wind will determine how long it is. Some great holes, terrific greens and a fine club house

I played Greenore a few weeks back, is it similar to that or a little more difficult? On certain holes the wind was a major factor.

I take it Seapoint is a step up from Greenore and not as good as Baltray? If you get me..

I wouldn't say a step up, they are both at a similar level quality wise I think. Two very good courses.

As said previously if you get a windy day Seapoint can tear you a new one.If it's calm though fairly manageable.

Keep the head down in the team event, I played in one a few years ago up there and it was tough conditions, we had about 85 points I think with all to score on the last and took home 3rd prize, so don't give up, the scores won't be blistering!!

    Enjoy it.

That's a fair assumption seapoint would be better than greenore . It's a lot tighter the rough is well up at the moment so the fairways are a must. Its not overly long but there is plenty of trouble to catch you out

Seapoint is divided into two: the front 9 works around the revolting houses that the club built - a real eyesore - and is fairly flat. There are a few good holes (with only a couple being difficult - Par 4 5th particularly), but the course comes to life on the second 9, with some superb links holes. They may not be as good as Baltray but they're still excellent, and they're more playable - wind permitting. The closing three holes are great fun.

Food in the clubhouse is some of the best I've had at a golf club.

I agree with JCDUB about Greenore: both it and Seapoint are strong courses, just different - definitely not a 'step-up'.

Seapoint is as good as Baltray, you won't find many, in fact you wont find any bad reports about Seapoint and not many would rate Baltray much better. Since my opening post on this thread, I've played Seapoint pretty much once a week as they introduced a new scheme whereby members could sign players in without participating themselves for only €20, which is excellent value.

I ain't played Greenore, but drive by it quite a lot and quite a few holes seem to be bordered by trees and perhaps the wind doesn't affect every single hole like it will in Seapoint, although that's very dependant on the weather, obviously. Usually Hole 17 is tricky to most people but somehow I seem to play it very well each week. The wind blows fierce across the hole so just keep that in mind.

Hole 1 is a par 4 can be tricky, I know you need a direct drive on a lot of holes in golf but more so on this one, depending on your handicap, if you end up in the semi rough on right hand side or the bunker on that side, you'll probably have to lay up as there is a water creek which runs 15 metres before the green.

Hole 2 is a tricky enough par 3, again a water creek runs about the same distance from the front of the green right around towards the right. Max concentration on your iron shot here.

Hole 3 is par 4 anything to the right of the fairway is good enough, remain away from the left hand side, the rough is rough there and chances are you'll not find your ball, also a bunker on that side which is reachable.

Hole 4 is par 4 blind tee shot to the fairway, straight ahead and anything to the right once again won't call for panic.

Hole 5 is par 4 index 1 but isn't actually that tough of a hole, water borders the left hand side of the green, a decent tee shot away to the left of the fairway could easily see you make par. Don't be tempted to catch a flyer and cut out the fairway over the trees.

Hole 6 is a par 5 with index 17, might sound easy but there is a few obstacles on it which can make it very tricky for you. Your tee shot can meet all sorts of trouble, lots of tee shots seem to end up on the bank on the right hand side or in the bunker on the same side, rough on the left will make it impossible to find your ball so good drive again in essential. 2nd shot can provide more problems a lot of shots tend to edge right which is covered with a few bunkers, if you have played the previous few holes well and your rhythm is good you should be fine.

Hole 7 par 4, it's a wide enough fairway but a lot of drives tend to end up right which is where the bunkers are, it's a handy enough hole though.

Hole 8 par 5, shouldn't pose any problems.

Hole 9 par 3, in my opinion one of the toughest on the course and it's index of 9 is wrong, there's a chance most of your playing partners won't make the green, most people come up short or right.

Hole 10 par 5 index 18, shouldn't pose any problems.

Hole 11 par 4, again shouldnt pose any problems.

Hole 12 par 4 is the longest of the par 4's and remember this when hitting your 2nd shot, tricky green also.

Hole 13 par 4 index 2, stay away from the left hand side of the fairway, you won't carry the bunkers on the left and the rough will gobble up your ball. Green is gaurded by bunkers which can be a problems but most of the time it's a handy enough hole.

Hole 14 again another long par 4, reminders about the 2nd shot again, you may think you will carry up onto the green but you will need a perfect shot to do so, lot of balls end up on the right on top of the bank. It's a long carry up to the hole.

Hole 15 Par 3, trouble on the right, other than that you should be okay.

Hole 16, stay away from the left and it's handy enough of hole.

Hole 17 as stated already above, you'll feel the wind up on the tee box.

Hole 18, trouble on the left, it's a long and tricky par 5. Par is a decent score.

Good luck and enjoy, unless the winds are blowing a gale you'll be fine, also I know it reads itself but do your best to stay away from the rough, it's wild and wicked and pretty similar to Turnberry at the weekend.

That’s great thanks for the posts lads. Really looking forward to it now, hope it’s not too windy.

Kevin I’ll try and score big and give my team contribution on the front 9 and sit back and enjoy the back 9…. If only it was that easy!!!
