Interclub question

A friend of my is after getting into his local club after been waiting for a couple of years.

He was a member somewhere else while waiting.

He would have played it anytime there is an open on.

They want him to play interclub this year but he isn't keen.

I know you are suppose to play 4 cards the previous year in the club (He would have completed this) but do you need to be a member also of that club?

GUI doesn't say (I couldn't find it) only seen the entry form which states the 4 rounds.

He qualifies on the basis that he had a handicap last year and he played four qualifying rounds.

It doesn't matter that his handicap was elsewhere, or that the rounds were on his new course.

Trampas - sorry for hijacking your thread but I'm in a similar situation myself and am not quite sure yet where I stand.

Last year I was a member of one club until August when I joined my current club so I carried my handicap across.

I wouldn't say I played 4 qualifying events at either of my home clubs last year but over the whole season including opens I definitely played more than 4 qualifying events in total.

Does this mean I am OK to play interclub this year ?
I have tried out for a team and will get a definite ruling on it beforehand too of course.

    Cheers,
    PK

It doesn't matter where the qualifying scores were played, once their on your handicap sheet.

As per the Tournament Conditions 2009...
In order to be eligible to compete in the Junior Cup,
Jimmy Bruen Shield and Pierce Purcell Shield, a player
shall have, in the calendar year prior to the event, returned
a minimum of four returns in qualifying competitions
(Supplementary Scores are not included) all of which
must be recorded on the handicap records of the player’s
home club on or before 31st December in the calendar
    year prior to the event.
Note: If a player changes his club during the previous
calendar year, it is his responsibility to produce evidence
of having competed in a minimum of four Qualifying
    Competitions.

    Thats fine so.
Just logged onto golfnet with my old membership number and I can see 7 or 8 qualifying events registered there from last year so sounds like I'm OK.

    Thanks,
    PK

I'd " bed " into the club before i stuck me neck on the line playing for the club in the first year... bet the members wouldn't be happy if he won the captains using his handicap from his other club at the first time of asking...;)

That's silly IMO. There are few better ways to meet fellow members and "bed" into a club than to roll up your sleeves and get involved in interclub matches.

Normally you cannot win the captains in your first year. I may stand corrected.

My club you have to have played X comps previous year to win the captain.

I'd agree with something like that.

Although in our club, they brought a similar rule in for the matchplays - purely on the basis that the previous year had a guy with a new h'cap get to the semi-final.

Funny thing is, we don't have such a rule for the Captain's.

So clearly we only work on a reactive basis. That's terrible, there should be a rule against that. Let's make one for next year...

Thats exactly my point .... if your good enough to represent the club in the first year of you being a member surely you are good enough to be eligable to win the captains prize in your first year... you have to have it both ways

Correct - in fact you do have it both ways.

To represent the club in a cup or sheild you have to have played 4 qualifying comps the year previous. Same goes for Captain's Prize - though this is a locally defined rule.
