Listening to Keith Finnegan this morning and very surprised to hear Galwegians have been turned down for new pitches out toward Moycullen.

Dont know if anyone has been up in Crowley Park lately but the state of the place leaves alot to be desired! Dont know what can be done now as the underage section is continuing to go from strength to strength and now the Club is without the space to expand!

    Very sad!

Ah jesus not again. It's like some kind of sick cosmic joke that's keeping them in Glenina. First the original plan was torpedoed at the EGM in bizarre circumstances and now this one gets turned down.

My nephew plays U-12s up there and the facilities are an embarrassment at this stage, far worse than those out in Corinthians when I played underage many moons ago.

What was the original plan Robbo?

Corinthians have the enviable facilities now, maybe they can share!

What was the original plan Robbo?
A similar turnkey landswap deal with another developer, I can't remember where it was to be. It was regarded as being a formality to vote through at the EGM until there was a seemingly "better" offer made from the floor. This did enough to tip the vote.

As it turned out, the second offer would have had more basis in reality if it were for 14 pitches and a gym on the moon with a clubhouse made out of cheese, but there you have it.

I presume it was for traffic concerns in relation to the Outer Bypass that ABP rejected the plan?

As far as I know, the fecking NRA put in an objection on the last day.

    Tuh!

Fecking ridiculous! IF the NRA ever manage to build the bloody thing, then was this not exactly the thing it was being built for?

Take the pressure off the local system so that communities can develop without being arse-stuffed by traffic.

Would Moycullen not be a disadvantage? It seems to make more sense to me for them to be located centrally. If only for the name, to me Galwegian means Galway city, Moycullen isn't Galway city.

Could refurbishment at the current location be a possibility?

    they should either
a - hire pitches in NUIG or GMIT for underage sections
b - hire pitches off city corp

the NRA are shower of cnuts. and that bypass will never be built as the people of Menlo will never allow it

The location was to be at Bushypark not sure exactly but I was told it wasn't far past Glenlo Abbey. All told about 2 miles from the centre of town.

    Full statement here.

Shocking decision, but not a bit surprising coming from the idiots in the NRA.
