Sooooo much 'product placement' in that film that your post should read.........

Nintendo MADE the movie as a vehicle for their games systems and the storyline revolves around video games, it was bound to contain the odd Nintendo here and there. It's not really product placement when the company MAKES the movie.

Anyway, Tobey Maguire made his first screen appearance in this (think it was his first). I loved the Nintendo power glove scenes and this movie was the reason I got a SNES instead of a Megadrive, who didn't want to get Mario 3 for flying Mario after this?

I liked the scene when Jeff Daniels smashes up the PI's car with a shovel too. I'm glad more kids got Mario than decided to smash up cars with shovels having seen the movie.

This was one morning at Christmas on TV3... put a post in the 'Recommended movies on TV' thread mid-way through it. It's aged terribly though!

Quick bit of trivia: the main girl in the film, Haley, is played by Jenny Lewis who now has quite a successful singing career. She's the lead singer of Rilo Kiley and also the fantastic female vocalist you hear on songs by The Postal Service.
