Geographic/non-geographic number

    Hi,
    Is there anyway to find whether a number is geographic or nongrographic.
    There is a number "016850202" given in a VOIP site as access number for making VOIP calls stating that it will be charged as local.

    My intention is if it is a geographic number I can use one of the bundle offers to make the call free.
    Any suggestions would of great help. Thanks in advance

    Irish VoIP numbers start by 076 so this one is a geo, it's a Dublin number.

    Geographic numbers are number with area codes. In that you can tell where they are by the area code. In your case, Dublin.

    Non geographic numbers are different. You cannot tell what area they based in. For example 1890, 1850, 1800, 1550 numbers etc and I suppose to a certain extent 999, 112.

    That may have been true in the past, but is no longer so: my VOIP geo number for Cork is an 021 number. Have a look at www.freespeech.ie.

    076 is a SPECIAL VoIP number. It's actually non geographic as in you don't know where in the country it originates.

    You're VoIP account also has an 021 but that's a Georgraphic number as everyone [hopefully] knows that it originates in Cork, therefore it's a national rate call from most places in Ireland. It's not really a "VoIP" number in the old sense.

    076 numbers are charged the same, no matter if you're ringing from Dongeal to Cork or Cork to Cork.

    Depending on where you are calling the given 01 number from it is either going to be charged as either a local number or a national call.

    Any calls from 01 numbers will be charged as a local call and there may also be other area codes where it will be charged as a local call.

    If you look at page 9 of this document from Eircomhttp://www.eircom.ie/About/Activities/Sn1_pt2.pdf the number is given as originating in North Dublin. Now look at pages 15-20 to see what areas can call this as a local number - calls from other areas will be charged at national rate
