Astra 19.2E receiving channels

    Hi,

I have a question about receiving channels on ASTRA 19.2E http://en.kingofsat.net/pos-19.2E_eng.php if you dont mind. I am in Madrid and using a 1.5M communal dish which is owned by Digital+ http://www.plus.es/ . Most of their channels are on astra 1KR but on astra 1H there are 500 FTA stations which I am interested in picking up. Anyway I connected my receiver up and picked up 229 channels which mostly belong to Digital+ and most of the stations I have picked up seem to be based on astra 1KR. I just wanted to know if I should be picking up stations off of astra 1H, 1F etc or is the communal dish just setup most likely to concentrate on astra 1KR ? If so then could I just have an installer come and setup a dish for me to concentrate on astra 1H ? Sorry if the question sounds a bit daft but I always thought that a receiver picked up everything off of 19.2E and not just focus on a particular one ie: astra 1KR.

    Any input appreciated

    Thanks

It depends on how the communal system is configured but usually if a communal dish is pointed at a particular satellite position you should pick up all of the transponders. The footprint http://www.lyngsat-maps.com/maps/astra1h.html seems to cover Spain quite well so you should be able to receive it.

Thanks for that. Thats what I thought also. Someone told me that my receiver might have outdated transponders loaded and to search for the latest ones and add them. The only thing is the screen to add transponders has no option to set FEC . Is that normal ? I have this receiver http://www.engel.es/Publica/DetalleProducto.cfm?Id=RC8300 . The info on the receiver seems quite old as it calling 19E Astra 1E which moved from 19E to 23.5E some time ago.

    Many receivers do auto-FEC.

I've just noticed your PM today, sorry for not getting back to you. Though this thread would be of better help anyway.

Agreed, PM's should not be used in place of a thread imho.

I was speaking to someone today and they mentioned something about " not to sure but when the signal gets distributed to the other flats or similar on the communal dish the distribution kit could used by Dgital+ might only be allowing certain transponders so as to stop people effectively using their dish for free". Is what I was told have any truth. Can a distribution system be setup to ony allow certain transponders ?

I'd be pretty sure it's possible alright to do such a thing. Maybe programmable filters or something

It's quite possible if Digital+ were involved in the installation of the communal system.

Thats great news. Exactly want I wanted to hear as I was going insane not being able to pick up anything else up after I had a Spanish sat engineer and several other persons all telling me that a 60cm dish (let alone a 1.5M dish) should be well capable of picking up nearly everything off of 19.2E from Madrid. I am going to connect my receiver to a neighbours 60cm dish just to verify.

    Thanks

Ok I can definitely confirm that Digital+ have some kind of block on certain transponders as I went up the roof took the cable out of the LNB and plugged my own cable directly into it and picked up 900 tv channels and 300 radio compared to about 250 tv channels and 26 radio whilst through the communal system. First I heard of a company doing this although not that surprised considering they have the add channels option blanked out on their boxes unlike Sky.

What time was it when you did this? 4am? :D
    Hope you have friendly neighbours.

And it's not so uncommon. My friend lives in an appartment block in Germany and she's hooked up to an "Einkabellösung system" onecablesolution system, where they don't use the 14/18V switching. All german channels are converted to one polarisation/band so no switching necessary. All on one cable and various outlets. And not a single spanish channel receivable.

However, the reason for doing that might differ from D+s inital ideas.

Your spot on ! 4am was the best time to do it I thought as everyone was asleep so chances were nobody was going to notice their satellite feed go down for about 10mins while I done a scan. No harm no foul and everything was back to normal as I said in 10mins. Potentially saved myself buying a dish that wasnt going to do any better.
