    Hi,
Would anyone know who I should contact about getting another reg certificate [not sure if I'm using the right term there]. I can't find mine anywhere and my car is due for an NCT.

    thanks

You don't need it for the NCT.

    Yes you do.
To get a replacement, go to a Garda station and pick up a replacement document form. (If they're not in the public office, ask the Garda at the hatch), That needs to be filled out, with your details and the details of the car (including chassis number), and get the gardai to stamp it. Then go to the post office and get a bankdraft for €12 (or else write a cheque, no cash). Send all this to the Dept of Environment in Shannon. Can't remember their proper address.

Well I have never been asked for at the nct.

You do in theory (in fact the NCT tells you to bring it along with you) but neither I nor the missus have actually ever been asked for it when presenting our cars for the NCT.

Thanks for your replies. I'm going to book it now anyway for a few wks time..hopefully I'll have the cert by then. I don't think I've ever been asked for one before now that I think about it.

Any idea how long the new cert takes to issue?

From personal experience, I've been refused a test in the past after forgetting to bring my VLC.

I just booked the test - not until June 11th so I'm going to send off the form and hopefully have it back by then.
    Thanks for replies

Never been asked for it in deansgrange, only want the money, over the last year I have brought 4 cars (mine, the missus, and my parents), all they did was confirm the reg, take the money and get me to sign a disclamer for the diesel car.

I was asked for it in Fonthill for my own previous car; I was not for my mothers... strangely as I was clearly not a "Bernadette"!

I was asked for mine this week. I'm assuming it's due to the amount of reporters currently running "Govt. NCT Shambles" stories, they're trying to be as by-the-book as possible.

You should have your registration cert with you but it's not an absolute requirement. The reason it's needed is to confirm the Chassis number in case the one on the car and the one the NCT have on their system are different. Once the car has had it's first test it should not be necessary for subsequent tests.
For Charlie Croker. The only reasons they can refuse to test your car are if its not in a fit state to be tested eg: leaking fuel, filthy dirty or no money

I was never asked for it and I've been to the NCT centre in Kells a few times
