Should we play GOD. Human Cloning!!

A maverick fertility expert who claims to be able to clone human beings has been condemned by other scientists for unethical practices that would be likely to lead to a damaged baby if they succeeded at all.
Panayiotis Zavos claims to have cloned 14 human embryos so far and implanted 11 of them into the wombs of four women, but none has survived. A documentary due to be screened tonight on the Discovery channel is expected to show the scientist carrying out his cloning procedures in an unnamed location, since the work is illegal in the UK and many other parts of the world.

Do you think we should meddle in evolution?

Yes I think we should meddle with with DNA and stem cells etc. Its the only way we can move forward in trying to prevent disease. If a few foetii (plural?) are taken so that it may save millions of lives then I think we have right to be allowed to experiment

Do you think we should medal in evolution?

Probably better off leaving it to the doctors.

If this goes all regelious Iam going to go off my nut.

Yes,if it leads to a greater good,i.e. cures for illness.

No,if it leads to designer babies who go on to take over the world.jerks....

Indeed I don't really get why people are against this stuff tbh, I assume religious nut jobs with the same mentality they had from back in the day where they have people killed for daring to say the world was not flat.

    "OH NOES NOT PROGRESS"

God is not a game! You can't play it..

At least not until you're a level 55 shaman.

Clone wars, only way, just we may have to wait 18 years for the foetuses to be strong enough, or do we....

Lots of kids younger than that manage it, even our own pampered Irish kids be packing flack vests and glocks at 11.

Ok, clone wars, 10 years, that will decide it.

No. I think we should go back to drawing on the inside of caves and hunting wild animals for food.

No we don't. In the historical documentary Attack of the Clones it was briefly mentioned that clones could be grown in double quick time so an adult would be ready to go in just 9 years.

Technically as God didn't clone anything, it's not really playing God - is it?

Yes, the world needs a few more Lily Blue's knocking around!

Seriously though I am not sure if we should..

Yes, i believe we should slice panda dna with cat dna.

Imagine, a panda the size of a cat (just scaled down to cat size, still cuddly). The ideal pet. A cat the size of a panda would be too big though.

I don't see how the supposed good of this outweigh's the very obvious danger with it.

Lets say, one rebel country takes an elite ops soldier, clones him hundreds of times and creates an army of that one solder through something such as gene therapy.

No, focus on curing and preventing disease, not completely eliminating diseases from the world.

Ethical issues aside, without disease to remove people from the world by killing them, the worlds population would triple in a short number of years.

An idea similar to that has been explored many times in science fiction.

Generally people create a new sub-race of less intelligent drones to work for them, and serve their needs (like a race of down syndrome people), including their sexual needs. This slave race is often created using the most attractive females for sexual purposes, and the strongest, yet docile males, for heavy lifting.

Yes, cos clones are sooooo sexy.
Seriously, esp if they figure out the grow vat tech.
Imagine cloning all your old lovers that you have kept dna samples of and getting to play
with them any way you want, in any combination and damage and kills them in any way you want
and then just order some more. Damn that's just so many levels of awesome.

If it becomes a success then we could very well have a new way of breeding life. No more trips to the orphanillage(Don't know how to spell it) for me:D

Also to the people who are saying it can be used to cure diseases. Dosen't that mean these clones will become human experiments which will most likely be put through the most brutal of tests. Are we blinded by our wanting to rid diseases of the world by allowing human rights to be ignored. The way I see it, a clone is still a human nonetheless and if it does indeed become a baby, then we'll be committing atrocities of the higest nature. I do believe in cloning but I believe it should be used to produce new life, not experiements.

We know that 95% of ALL tests on animals are unreliable and inconclusive, moving on to stem cells closer to us humans would be a step forward, but I don't think we should clone humans and pit them through the suffering of laboratory testing. The animals have suffered enough as well

Sci Fi has been traveling down this road for decades. If youre interested I suggest you read up. Im in agreement that cloned humans will lead to better gene manipulation but this will also breed resentment between Naturals and Engineered Humans.

I think you are correct that sci-fi has explored many issues that will at some point be a problem if left unregulated. It is more likely that it will not happen due to the ability of people to comprehend what the potential outcomes would be.

It will be seen in much the same way as using drugs in sport is how I would see it. Although IVF is pretty badly regulated AFAIK to prevent siblings having children so who knows. IVF is probably a bigger danger that is ignored. For species that is overpopulating the planet it seems strange that we chose to help those who are unable to reproduce naturally.

It seems some people here confuse the ability to clone genetically with the ability to replicate a person.

I never thought about that. People say Racism is bad, imagine what it'll be like with clones, it'll be they took our jerbs all over again.

"Yes, lets end the war with this big fukoff bomb. Whats the worst that could happen?"

Truth of the matter is society gets rather complacent when they get that sentiment "Oh yeah we can destroy the world yep yep dont worry we thought of that... but we spent about 20 minutes last night ironing out the problem and I think we're good to go."
