Pre Registered Price Reduction?

What (if any) discount could you expect to get off a pre-registered car. Been looking at a 09 Qashqai, its preregistered with the garage and has 0 km on the clock - however based on the figures I've been given the car is being sold at the same price as a new non-registered car.

I know someone who bought a brand new (non-registered) one from the same garage last month and the price quoted is the same.

Should I expect some form of discount?

Yes, as your buying a 2nd hand vehicle - you'll be the 2nd owner.

Exactly thats my thinking too, regardless of the km on the clock. I haven't brought it up with the sales guy yet just wanted to see if I could get a general consensus here first

I'm getting another price tomorrow from a different garage who is *ahem* confident of beating my present quote.

Is it a pre-registered car, or registered as a demo? They are two different things. With a pre-registered car, it is slightly different. I dont know the ins and outs of it, but i dont think its the same as a demo.

Bare in mind, the Qashqai is one of the best selling cars of 09, despite the recession there is still an appetite for them, so the discount on one will be small, regardless.

It's a preregistered car has basically 0kms on the clock i.e. hasn't been used as a salesman runaround or test drive car

I wouldn't expect as much as you would expect off if it were a demo, but I would expect something off for the fact that it's already registered. Are they in the same county as you?

Maybe this is why it's the best selling car, plenty of pre-regs we don't know about lol

I dont think you would be the first owner on that then. Maybe im wrong. You should check that out.

I'd be expecting 5-7% discount of the total list price of the new car.

A few went on to Rental Fleets recently so the dealer probably just registered one too many.

Thanks guys for the input so far, my understanding is the garage is the current owner and I will now become the second owner and on the basis of this I don't feel they are selling the car on at the lowest possible price.

A 5% discount would have me purchasing - I'll know tomorrow when i get a 2nd quote against a new one.

Imo 5% is a very poor discount on a used vehicle regardless of the mileage. Bare this in mind the dealer has more than likely got a kick back from the distributor on the vehicle as it's registered thus it would be classed as another sold vehicle.

Wait now, are you trading in? Maybe they are bumping the money into your trade in? Ask them the cost to change for a new one as well.

Apologies was just going to mention I am trading in and you're right it may be the case the trade in is swallowing the discount

It's apples and oranges now. Totally different ball game. I think including myself everybody assumed you were doing a straight purchase. Disregard my input.

Aye aye. At least you know what your looking at now. Cost to change is the only thing relevant.

For sure - and on top of that not everywhere wants to take a 04 Mondeo (including Ford garages) off my hands but both Nissan dealers will (albeit to their advantage). Don't fancy having it on the driveway for the next year trying to shift it myself

Petrol or diesel? Can't say I'd be too keen myself either, lol. What spec is it?

    Wait for it...:D

    1.8 LX 5 Door
    Petrol
    66,000 miles

I could go on about the FSH, top condition etc. ;)

Jaysus. I wouldn't of went much more than 4.5k... That's kinda topping it, lol.

Have you tried trading it in against a Qashqai? :D

Aren't some of the Nissan dealers doing a scrappage scheme? Might be the reason behind a gutsy trade in like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,406 ✭✭✭ike

it prob is closer to €4.5k if you include a discount from the pre- reg

Full deal is being quoted 27,000 for the Qashqai
    6,000 for the Mondeo
    stands @ 21,000 to me.

Was that from one dealer? What other offers did you get? I was thinking about 4ish... 4.5k would be kinda topping it.

    Which model Qashqai?

I'll let you know tomorrow if you like when I call to another Nissan dealer - spoke briefly to him on the phone today.

    The 1.5dci - SE model

Sounds about right then - max discount being passed on and putting around €3k in for your Mondeo.

That price does sound about right alright.

Hit the other garage and see if you can improve the cost to change. Get cost to change figures for a new unregistered Qashqai as an interesting comparison. The pre reg MUST be significantly cheaper in my opinion before I would go for it.

If it was 500 or more cheaper I'd be going for it (if it was registered in the same county that I was in). I've never hit someone heavily for owners. And I don't think it's the type of car that will be sought after in a few years as a one owner car.
