Accelerator pedal & C ring

    Hi.

I have to replace the accelerator 'stem' and pedal on a VW LT. I have the part itself.

It looks like an easy job to do. Uncatch the spring, remove the pivot bolt and un clip the top bit - and then just attach the new one.

The thing is, there's a small C ring type thing holding the bolt on. How do I remove it? is it easy to put back?

Is there anything else I should know about changing an accelerator pedal?

I really dont want to pay a mechanic for something that looks so easy...

Ill put photo's up in a sec.

It looks to me like you need to just jam a flat screwdriver in between the clip and the stud, twist and it should come off.
Either that or you may need a 'circlip' pliers, if you dont know what that is, its a pliers with very narrow jaws that can slip into two holes on the clip and pull it apart.
Can you get a picture from a different angle?

Thanks for that. I think ill try using a flathead as you said. The C ring dosnt have two holes by the looks of it. Its in an awkward position though.

Looking at the photo's there there appears to be little slots in the C ring. I presume thats for sticking a flathead in or some other such tool. Ill give it a go anyway.

That's an 'E' clip, like these:

Remove it either by inserting a flat blade screwdriver into one of the two visible slots and carefully twisting it away from the shaft, or by sliding it around until you can access the two ends of it and pressing them down simultaneously with the jaws of a pliers or similar.
