FIGHTING opens in Irish cinemas on May 15th 2009

    Trailer

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v6ttyvbhbsQ

Small-town boy Shawn MacArthur has come to New York City with nothing. Barely earning a living selling counterfeit goods on the streets, his luck changes when scam artist Harvey Boarden sees that he has a natural talent for streetfighting. When Harvey offers Shawn help at making the real cash, the two form an uneasy partnership. As Shawn's manager, Harvey introduces him to the corrupt bare-knuckle circuit, where rich men bet on disposable pawns. Almost overnight, he becomes a star brawler, taking down professional boxers, mixed martial arts champs and ultimate fighters in a series of staggeringly intense bouts. But if Shawn ever hopes to escape the dark world in which he's found himself, he must now face the toughest fight of his life.

Its directed by Dito Montiel and stars Channing Tatum and Terrence Howard.

Dito Montiel's debut film A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints was very good and it featured a top award worthy performance from Tatum

I enjoyed Never Back Down and i'm guessing this is in the same vein as that movie

    Opens today in Ireland

JP Liz are you in fact Dito Montiel?

This film looks shocking...the lack of imagination shown by the filmmakers is only matched by the lack of subtlety...FIGHTING FIGHTING FIGHTINg IF YOU WANT TO BE A CHAMPION YOU HAVE TO SACRIFICE IF YOU WANT TO SURVIVE YOU HAVE TO FIGHT FIGHTING FIGHTING FIGHTING.

We get it the films about fighting ffs.

I saw this on Sunday night, it is quite honestly a travesty but has some real plus points at the same time.

    Pros:

    1. Certain aspects of the fight scenes are shot exquisitely, it's like someone who knew what they were doing took the camera for a few moments.

    2. Terrence Howard puts in an amazing performance and you find yourself wanting him to be on screen when he is not.

    Cons:

    1. Zero character development, there is quite frankly no elaboration on who any of the people are and what their motivations in life are, it just frustrates and stops you becoming genuinely interested in any of their destinies.

    2. For a movie called fighting, there are very few fights and the fights that there are only last for brief periods.

    3. The plot is such a cliche it's like a spoof of Rocky and you find yourself waiting for the joke to be revealed.

I wouldn't rush out to see this if I didn't have an Unlimited Card and the movies on offer at the moment are generally poor.
