    Hi,
I'm planning on cycling to work (about 8km in Claregalway area).
What would you recommend wearing on legs?
We have showers, changing area at work...

What do you think of these full length trousers and 3/4 length?

The 3/4 length seem appealing for after work but in the mornings wouldn't it be a bit too cold with them on? Or do people wear longs/thermals under them?

Would you not get too hot in thermals (like these? Even though I see a lot of road bikers wearing them.....

    Cheers,
    pa.

Shorts would be fine (Baggy or lycra). For 8 km's each way you won't really need padded shorts. The 3/4 length one's would be fine. At this time of year you've no real need for full length trousers.

Where's there a good place in Dublin to shop for bike rain gear?

Wear a thong. Nothing else. Just a thong. Motorists will leave you plenty of room when passing.

Rapha are doing a cycling suit also. It'll cost you £3,000 though.

The 3/4 lengths would probably be the ones to go for. It MAY be cold for the first few minutes but you'll warm up and probably be glad of the breeze on your legs when you do. You could always buy a pair of lycra leggings for under the shorts on colder days.

I wear these Altura cycling shorts which have a removable padded liner. I wear lycra leggings underneath as I'm usually colder than the average human.

It will take a bit of trial and error to work out exactly what to wear on a given day.

FWIW, I've been commuting a bit in shorts and a short-sleeved top for the last few weeks. No base layer. When it's colder I add a gilet, but that comes off at the quays.

If you have showers at work there's no reason to overdress - just pedal harder to keep warm.

I've got about 8km commute into work, and i wear 3/4 lengths and a underarmour T-shirt which i find grand. Definitely not too cold in the mornings, as said, if there's a bit of a nip in the air just pedal harder! I wish i had showers at work.........:(

I've been wearing shorts and long-sleeved cycling jersey for a few weeks now - any more and I'd be too warm..
8km each way for me too

Yeah if you have showers and changing facilities for an 8km commute then you have the luxury of wearing whatever you want.

Maybe a jersey, 3/4 shorts and a light jacket?
