How long does it take to buy a God d*mn bike in Dublin

I come from the world of second hand bikes where you go in, see what they have in the shop, pick one, hand over your money, cycle out.

Because of the Government scheme I decided a while ago to go with the more flashy route of buying a new one, and I must say I regret it soooo much. The way they act in Dublin bike shops you would swear they are selling guns. It appears to be impossible to get hold of a bike within any reasonable length of time.

Over a week ago I went to one of the bike shops in town that is spoken very highly of on this board. Picked out my bike (very normal unremarkable one), and niavely expeced to cycle home. It would be tomorrow they said. Then if became a week... now another week (though they won't commit).

Another friend who bought a bike a few weeks before from a different shop and still doesn't have his.

IMHO the total lack of stock in these shops, and the inability to have stock shipped within a reasonable and reliable number of days is the most infuriating thing I've ever come accross. How do you guys deal with this crap.

I can't think of any other product that suffers on an ongoing basis from this.

    OK... vent over...

Well, without knowing details, I wouldn't say this is a normal occurrence... if they have the bike in your size in store, you should be able to leave with it there and then. Unfortunately however, a lot of the time they can't have all sizes in store, as space is at a premium, and so returning the next day, or a couple of days later is fairly standard, and not too much of a hassle imo. What's taking so long, is it that they are ordering your size from the manufacturer? Could be that they're not getting supplied in a timely fashion, and there's nothing they can do about it

    I'm 5ft 10 = standard

I've ordered a Specilized Sirrus Sport = probably the most common bike they sell

The idea that it is acceptable that a shop which sells 100 bike a fortnight (well thats what the guy there says) has to order the most common bike they sell in an order by order basis "should" not be accepted (IMO). Anyway... I've found a different stockist and even if it takes as long... will go with them... The attitute of... this is normal... from the shop in town (not cyclelogical) is unacceptable to me.

He said reputable, so not them -I reckon cycleways, cos Cycleogical store bikes in the back of the shop, in boxes, but on site -Cycleways have a warehouse somewhere so can take longer to get your bike in in the size you want

Name and same OP, name and shame! :)

Cyclelogical have a store off site also, so I've been told.

Talked the owner of my lbs and he told me that the importers for Spesh in Ireland are muppets and did not order a big enough quota of bikes as they nievley thought no one would be interested in the cycle to work scheme.
There for they are now sold out of the 2 most popular bikes the allez and the sirrus.
The lbs here is now doing a complete buld up of a Sinttesi frame with tusk forks and full Tiagra on allex wheels and ITM bars and stem to try and meet the demand for the higher spec Allez he says it comes in about a grand.

Yea just think of who the main spesh dealers in Dublin are and it ain't cyclogical:D
I don't think they are very reputable any way . When I come from the country every December they won't talk to mr coz they know I'm just going to buy from my lbs or online and only use their place to try on sizes:D
Man people like me must wreck their heads:D:D
