Car for €5,000 - suggestions?

Hi all,

Having failed the NCT for the 1001st time I think it might be time to put my 97 Polo out of it's misery and buy a new car. I could probably afford about €5,000 on a new 2nd hand car. Maybe 1.3l engine and something reliable that will last a good five years.

Given the fall in the cost of cars, does anyone have any suggestions?

its usually false economy, combined with the much safer aspects of bigger cars i really never understand why peeps pick small cars

i once saw a mideium speed crash between a cavalier/vectra and a yaris

the yaris ended up upside down in a ditch the cav was still driveable

I find a lot of the 1.4's around the Corolla size tend to be underpowered for the size of car and a 1.6 can be more economical. Tax and insurance differences are minimal to be honest.

A 1.6 Focus would be a good choice
