For two or three weeks now, I've been having problems with my internet; it generally is disconnected whenever I come on (which it shouldn't be, 'cause it's high speed), and will work again when I unplug everything and then plug them back in, but then the internet will disconnect half an hour later so I have to unplug everything all over again.

Seeing as the internet is also connected to another computer in the house, which has no connection problems until this computer comes on (plus has faster internet), I'm suspecting the problem's on here. I'm thinking it's likely to be a virus; I downloaded The Comedian.exe as was recommended on this forum's sticky threads, but when I ran it, The Comedian immediately "encountered a problem and needed to shut down", with my AVG Anti-Virus saying immediately after or before that it's encountered a Trojan virus, which I would heal and put into the virus vault and then empty the virus vault. I would try to run The Comedian once more and the process repeats itself.

This forum has helped me in the past with removing viruses and I hope it can help me this time around as well.

If, I’m seeing this right ASJ is the Maker of that tool..
Thats my tool, its perfectly safe. All it does it flush temp folders, create a system restore point, and turn off wordwrap.

Try this and see how you get on Please remember to post the logfiles for ASJ to take a look.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune from http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=25&Itemid=25 . Save it to your Desktop.

    Run ATF Cleaner
    • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
    • Click Select All found at the bottom of the list.
    • Click the Empty Selected button.
    • Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.
    • Shutdown/restart the computer.

Next Please download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to your desktop.
    • Double-click mbam-setup.exe and follow the prompts to install the program.
    • At the end, be sure a checkmark is placed next to Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, then click Finish.
    • If an update is found, it will download and install the latest version.
    • Once the program has loaded, select Perform full scan, then click Scan.
    • When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results.
    • Be sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
    • When completed, a log will open in Notepad.

Please save it to a convenient location. The log can also be found here: C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Malwarebytes\Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware\Logs\log-date.txt
    • Please post contents of that file in your next reply.

AVG really doesn't like the program, am sick of having them fix their FP

Run those scans that Paddy mentioned, don't worry about The Comedian

The scan appears to have done the job so far; it found a Trojan and some Malware and they were successfully deleted. Here's the log:

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware 1.36
    Database version: 2022
    Windows 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3

    mbam-log-2009-04-21 (22-30-01).txt

    Scan type: Full Scan (A:\|C:\|D:\|E:\|)
    Objects scanned: 168951
    Time elapsed: 2 hour(s), 4 minute(s), 31 second(s)

    Memory Processes Infected: 0
    Memory Modules Infected: 0
    Registry Keys Infected: 0
    Registry Values Infected: 0

    Memory Processes Infected:

    Memory Modules Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Registry Keys Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Registry Values Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Registry Data Items Infected:
    (No malicious items detected)

    Folders Infected:
    C:\Program Files\ComPlus Applications (Rogue.MalwareCleaner) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

    Files Infected:
    C:\setup.exe (Trojan.Agent) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

The internet now isn't disconnecting and is going nice and fast, but the computer itself seems a bit slower. Maybe it's nothing to worry about and it just needs some cleaning up from a future cleanup step you might take me through next. Thank you very much, though, for the help you've both given so far.

It’s good to hear your internet connection is somewhat back to normal. Can we just do a follow-up scan just to be on the safe side, ASJ just me want you to other thing but for now do this Please.

First, please reboot your computer. After your computer has restarted, run MBAM once again so we can see if something has re-generated. Only paste a MBAM log if something is found.

Please download and install HijackThis© from one of the following locations:
    Installing and Scanning with HijackThis©
    • At the download prompt from one of the above locations, choose "Save"
    • Navigate to the saved file and double-click the installer, HJTsetup.exe
    • By default, HijackThis© will be installed on your computer at C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis, making an entry in the Start menu and also providing a Desktop shortcut
    • When the installation is complete, double-click the HijackThis© icon on your Desktop
    • Select "Do a system scan and save the Logfile"
    • When the scan is completed, Notepad will launch with the log. Please UNcheck Word Wrap in Notepad (Click Format > UNcheck Word Wrap)
    • Do not fix anything that you see in the log. (Scanning will not make any changes to your computer. Most of what is found is harmless or even required.)
    • Copy/Paste the log here.

    Paddy..
