Do 11km per day for my commute and between 70km and 130km (at the moment!) at the weekends.

    60km a week I'd say commuting.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,001 ✭✭✭scottreynolds

Can't resist -- 600km this week  ... 3X100 miles, a few other short sessions, with 30km commute each day.

I must also say thats by no means normal -- three weeks till my big day. Then I probably settle on 200-250 per week nothing hectic.

Prob between 5 and 7hrs a week on the bike so up to 200km distance wise...

Depends what else I have on, but pretty much always 25 a day for the round trip to work. Then a couple of midweek spins of about 40 or so going around Howth. Will be racing this year so that will be another 60 or so, then two weekend spins of about 100 to 160 each. Maybe over 500km on a very good week. Some weeks can be significantly less and I wouldn't do that much all year round.

Not nearly enough. Planning to do more during the summer.

    About 80km a week + a weekend spin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 161 ✭✭strummer_ie

140km a week on my commute.

Hoping to up that over the next few weeks.
Going to slowly build up to heading out to Howth and back on my commute a few days a week..... at least that's the plan.

And maybe the odd weekend spin to put some miles into the legs.

way too much, but god damn it i enjoy doing it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,618 ✭✭✭Civilian_Target

100km a week... but this week I left my keys behind on the bus so I'm down to 50km, unless I do a random weekend spin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,157 ✭✭✭✭Alanstrainor

I probably do about 100Km a week, most of that is commuting. Want to start doing more on weekends though, so hopefully i'd get that up to something like 200 in the next few weeks.

100km per week commuting on the nose.
Try to do min of 100km at w/e, with at least one bigger cycle/month (150k;ish)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,431 ✭✭✭zzzzzzzz

9-10 hours a week usually. kms really depend on hills/wind etc.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,268 ✭✭✭irishmotorist

I usually commute on the bike 3 days a week which gives me 150km per week and then a weekend jaunt. I have been doing about 100km on a weekend spin but hopefully last weekend will push me up to 150km or so most weekends now that the sun has joined us.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 798 ✭✭✭Alias G

Commute is 54 km round trip usually 2 or 3 times a week. Only head for the hills maybe once every couple of months.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭Crapjob Sean

About 75k a week in commuting. A couple of hours at the weekend, I don't measure, just wherever the bike takes me.

I had a job a few years ago where the commute was about 50k a day return. So I was doing 250k a week in a commute and forcing myself out every evening for an hour.
**** me, I was fit then.

    True story.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

Not enough at the moment - about 225/250/week ( not including commute that's only about 5k/ day )

Would like to go up to 400/ week for the summer... ideally. Last year I was doing 600/week at some stage...

    Does driving count????

I was doing much more but at the mo in a good week 1-2 days mbt & 100+ miles road pw.

I'm looking everywhere for a nice road bike (€500+ish frame size 58-60 if anyone has one spare;)) when I get that my road miles will increase!:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 278 ✭✭rughdh

150 - 350k per week. Depends on how long the long cycle at the weekend is. The commute is only 50k per week.

I may be able to help if you can spare 650-700 and your leg measurement is about 32" -full ultegra steed, very nice bike....

you're not selling the cayo? It's always very handy to have a spare road bike.

Handy to have, but space at home is far too tight... and not a Cayo, the Variado Exert :)

    About 120 a week.

I'm starting to increase that form this evening. I'm leaving work early to get a 50-75km in this evening and maybe do another on Sunday.

I might try get out with the group in a couple of weeks:)

I plan to be doing about 250 a week soon

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,901 ✭✭✭lukester

Am doing a paltry 150 a week at the moment, over 3-4 pre-work rides, building ever upwards, although this week haven't been out at all, feckin' cold, snif.

I moved job last year, and had a choice between a job that would have given me a 20k daily commute or a 1k one. Crazily, I chose the latter (for non-cycling reasons).

The difference not having that base makes is very large.

Which I think is great, you come home and get out! No Commute = More training!

I hear ya. But once I get home, getting out again is not so easy with a small baby in the house :pac:

Hence all my training is early in the morning.

What more motivation to get out is needed that a noisy child :)

Because when you get home it's replaced with a noisy wag!:(

My motivation to get out is strong, very strong.

But there's a bigger disincentive in this picture too :)

Will be too small for you in that case I'm afraid :(

It's a 56cm frame, which will fit someone 6' just fine (cos I am), but would be quite small for someone 6'2"

ditching the old thing for the new

Apart from desiring pinkness and wanting to build a bike collection, what made you upgrade from the Focus?

Am eyeing up my own next upgrade, which is beyond budget currently.

Seems a spate of boardsies are abandoning the Focus.

Too much judging by the state of my knee on Sunday...4 x 36km commuting and one 100+km ride at the weekend

Simply an upgrade to Carbon from Aluminium. The Focus is a great bike, and if I didn't live in a small flat with the Planet X, a MTB and a Fixie, I'd keep it for a spare, but have no room.

I don't think there's that many abandoning Focii (is that the plural!?), they're just upgrading to something different, and there's less recommendations for them on here as they're not quite the best bang for buck any more (though still close!)

Ah, I assumed your Focus was carbon.

Will be looking for carbon myself on the next upgrade.

60km of commuting per week on me fixie, and over the last 4 weeks averaging an additional 80km per week out on the road bike.

    Need to do more though.

reckon with all my errands yesterday I clocked up 50km of commuting...I would do longer road spins but I tend to get a little bored, mountain biking is the way forward!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭Highway_To_Hell

    Try to commute 3 days a week = 180km + 80 -100km weekend spin = 260-280 / week.

With the longer evenings I will hopefully start to do at least one longer commute home and when the kids GAA and rugby seasons are over I will be able to up my weekend mileage as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,400 ✭✭✭Caroline_ie

There is a cycling competition this week in work for earth week. I said I would cycle 500km this week ... that 3x60km weekdays and 160x2 at the weekend ... I hope I can manage that. If I only do just a century x2 this weekend i could still reach 400km ... I want to win!!!!!!!

a 60km commute?? Wow, I would not be able for 30km after a day's work in winter. I salute you sir!

I do just under 100km / week commuting. Really adds up when you think about it!
