    Hi Folks,

We'll be doing the pace test this weekend, Saturday 25th April, to separate everyone into their different ability levels this weekend in the park at 10am as we start into the official 2009 Dublin Marathon training.

Any questions please let me know.

    Thanks

    Sean

Looks like you don't like them. Any reason why?

Friends of mine joined this group last year & were very disappointed. They were new to marathon running & towards the slower end of group. Many times when doing long runs in the park, Sean was left by the time they got back. He had no interest in how slower people were getting on. not worth the €90 for running round the phoniex park

I've always wondered what else he provides other than running around the park with you?

You might get much better value if you joined a proper club at that price and also where the motives are more philanthropic and less about making money. I'm sure some people get value for money though but you would have to wonder.

I reckon it serves a purpose for people who just want to run a marathon rather than (or who might be too intimidated to) join an athletics club.

I'll tip my hat to anyone who tries to run a business revolving around running and benefiting health & well being. I doubt it would be that lucrative (in Ireland).

However, I think the whole IrishFit thing just looks really unprofessional. Don't like the website, don't like the idea of Mooathon... Call me old fashioned, but I much prefer the crisp and clean-cut professional business image.

I met a few of them last summer in the park and seemed to be of mixed views on it. One thing it does it gives people a group to training with for the marathon, the view that "I'm not good enough " for a club is a real view that people do take, They think all club runners are running sub 5 min miles which couldnt be further from the truth.
If some clubs ran a meet and train style sessions in the run up to the marathon something like what is done for the mini marathon, i'd say you would see a lot of takers. I know the fit for life is up and running but i've asked a few friends of mine and they heard of it, and the answer was no, so still more work to do...

I agree that joining a club is a great idea and that lots of people in clubs do great work for little recognition

however fair play to the guy for trying to get a business going and providing a service (i make no comment as to its quality) - the effort involved in simply finding and joining a club can be intimidating, sometimes there are unprofessional / unfriendly responses.

That's exactly what i think as well.
At the end of the day, if one doesn't like his service, then don't use it, but i am sure that some people do.
