Do people feal the Bull was unlucky not to get selected for the Lions ?

He has never been a brilliant scrummager, but I think he will be missed, and feal sorry for such a loyal servent to our game.
In the long term , I think the break will be great for him -- and I think the World Cup has overtaken Lions tours - I believe the Home Nations should be looking at winning World cups, instead of cummulating together to beat just one nation ..

It's unfortunate for him on a personal level. He may yet end up out there with injuries but he didn't deserve to go on form and ability. The Munster scrum has been quite weak of late.

I always felt that Hayes would be a borderline selection. However, with both Sheridan and Vickery selected, you'd have to now feel that he was hard done by.

Well Hayes and Sheridan don't play the same position so there's no reason to feel hard done by there. Between himself and Vickery is a tight one, but I suppose if you've a toss up you go for the guy with the Lions test caps and RWC winners medal. It's a fair call imo.

Sheridan is a loosehead and Vickery is a better scrummaging prop.

My point was that both Sheridan and Vickery, in my opinion, offer less than Hayes yet got picked. Don't think there should have even been a toss up. My thoughts would be that if England had 14 players and Ireland 8, then maybe Hayes would have got the nod!

I don't really understand your point. Sheridans selection has no effect on Hayes' non selection. They are different positions.

On the hard grounds of South Africa i expect there to be alot of injuries. Therefor, Hayes involvement in this lions tour could develop yet.

Vickery was a better scrummaging prop. Vickery living off his rep, Hayes hampered by his.

He has that reputation for a reason you know. He's not a great scrummager. He has improved a lot and did very well in this year's 6N, but seems to have gone a bit backwards since. The Munster scrum has been about the only bit of their game that hasn't look good of late. He's also something of a liability in open field play - yes he has great ruck defence etc, but if caught in open play then its a problem.

Pity, but he was never going to be picked really with the other three that bit better all round. Hayes and Horan should be given the summer off to give game time to Buckley, Healy, Ross etc

    Because it makes no sense.

Edit - I really think the front row has you confused. I see you posted in another thread that Hayes was scrummaging against Murray in the Scotland game.

I think we could see Hayes on the tour. There's a lot of rugby between now and the plane on May 24th. And that's only the beginning. Given the physicality of the Boks, expect more than a replacement Lions to be called up.
