My first scratch

First I'll add that I've a tiny car, it's a little smaller than than a mirca. I pulled into a parking space but their was a car beside me to the right which was over the line to my side, I parked within the lines and had enough room to get out but before I could the guy started reversing and turning(would have made more sense to go forwards, he was reversing into empty parking spaces). He ended up scratching my car and said "ah, it's nothing" I didn't want to get into an arguement with him the dinner was on at home and I had to run in and get things before it started to burn. I did get the reg on the car(maybe without him knowing, I typed it into my phone).

I wouldn't have minded if he wasn't so flippant about it but when we came out again he had just moved spaces(with slightly better parking). The person I had with me I don't think had their full licence for 2 years, they're probably afew months shy of it. We thought it was odd, that he moved ver awkwardly out of the spot he was in and then parked a few spaces down. I kinda feel like he did it on purpose.

He scratched your car and you didn't ask for any of his details? Seems very odd, even if it was "nothing", that was for you to decide, Not him. If you like i could move this to the general motors forum as this isn't really a learning to drive issue.

This is the first thing to happen to me, I really didn't know what to do. I have the number plate of the car so it shouldn't be too hard to find him. If you want to move it into the general motors forum then that's fine with me.

    Moved from Learning to Drive.

If you have the reg number it shouldn't be too hard. The Gaurds should be able to help. If you know a Guard, they might be able to do it discretely so that you can call him and tell him you want something done about it. This would give him the option of avoiding going through insurance. Otherwise I think you would have to file a report with the Guards and they'd get in touch with him. And as you saw him do it he can't deny it.

Recent threads here would suggest otherwise.
The gards won't get involved unless you've concrete evidence. How bad is the scratch op? there are solutions to it but sadly you'll never hear from the other driver again. Giving the Reg to the gards is a waste of time and don't think of ringing insurance as they'll push your premiums up.

I recently reversed into a ladies car in my estate. she was kind enough to let it go but I was lucky as there actually wasn't any damage.

Once again. sorry to hear about your car.
If the damage is bad, perhaps put pics up here? I can recommend a few places that done wonderful work on my mothers car and the ex's

The main thing I'm worried about is that when I was driving I didn't have the proper accompanied driver with me. When it did happen the person that was there was standing away from the car looking(people forget I've no central locking, so I stayed back to lock the door) I had the key in my hands as well so hopefully it wont be too bad.

I'm going to talk to my uncle, he was in the gardai long enough to know what to do.

Best of luck. Hope you can even track him down and he'll be honest enough to pay for it. :)

Thanks, I know people that would be able to do it but I don't think it's that bad. It's not a new car, the paint work wouldn't be the best anyway. I'm going to have a proper look at it tomorrow. I'm just more annoyed at him for being stupid, flippant and me for letting him, I normally don't let people get away with much at all.

The next person that does this is getting a scummy Limerick accent(great for when your p**sed off) followed by an american(southern -my I'm right and your wrong voice)

I was talking to a garda recently, and he said that they weren't too concerned about this anymore, and any cases they sent in were brushed off. TBH, if someone damaged your car, it's the last thing I'd be worried about. You were parked after all, I don't think you need an accompanied driver to sit in your parked car.

Best of luck with it anywho.
