Console Fun Cycle, 9th May

    Hey,

This year, I'm doing the Wicklow 200 in aid of Console, a charity who provide counselling and support to those bereaved as a result of suicide. In honour of this, I'm organising a Fun Cycle to raise a few quid for it.

It will be a 36km round trip, starting and finishing at Marlay Park. The proposed route goes from the car park up Stocking Lane, to the viewpoint, on to Enniskerry and back via Kilternan. I'm hoping that there would be enough people there to split into 4 group; a fast group, a touring group, a group for people who normally just commute and a group for people who wouldn't be used to being on a bike. Each group will have a guide with them, and 2 scheduled stops; one at the viewpoint and one in Enniskerry, though that may be adjusted depending on the needs and wants of the particular group.

I suppose a donation of €3 per person would be what I'd be looking for, but whatever you can afford would be great. It is scheduled for the 9th May at 10am.

Would there be many from here interested?
    Thanks in advance

Yeah might be up for it alright. Any idea of the timing of it?

the timing of it will depend upon the speed of the group you're in. i'm hoping for three or four groups, the fastest ones would manage it in an hour and a half fairly alright, and the more casual groups shouldn't be more than 2 and a half hours, which means an ave speed of around 14-15km/h, should be manageable by pretty much anybody!

glad to hear of positive interest! i'm hoping people will met at the car park to marlay park at 10am, which should see everyone finished early afternoon.

@ Dave - would it be ok to head with ye to the turnoff to Glencree/Enniskerry and then continue on my own.
I would prfer to do at least 100k, as opposed to 36, but would be more than happy tp tag along for a while.
More than happy to support this charity.
    Well done for organising.

I figured this will be the case for a lot of the more regular cyclists, hopefully the route is accommodating enough for anyone who wants to head on for a good spin, so no problem at all!

I know the starts late enough too, but my goal is to get a variety of cyclists of all levels up for it... 36km would be manageable for most people.

    Anyone else?!

You can count me in to dave, great idea! I'm only getting started with cycling so the shortish route suits me

Might be worth putting up a google maps marker for where exactly you want people to meet since Marlay is a big place!

Meeting in the car park to Marlay Park off Grange Road, find a map attached.

    Thanks.

Thanks Donal, that's where I was talking about alright! I hope that helps everyone else too.

Yep, whoever wants to show up on the day would be more than welcome, was just looking for a rough guide to the numbers.

    Thanks guys.

great stuff, hopefully we'll have enough for 3 groups, and if anyone wants to do part of it before turning off for sally gap, i think you'll have company! for anyone who's interested, i'll complete the course, then head out and either do it again or head for the gap then back towards dublin, want to get in ~120km during the day.

I'm in. Was supposed to head out earlier, but severely lethargic this morning. In need of company to motivate me.

Have never been to Marlay Park, so I hope to find ye.

Thanks all, enjoyed it myself too, plus managed to raise €65 for Console, so that's great!

Excellent, glad to hear a good bit of cash was raised! Had a good time heading out with the gang, if I hadn't been in a group I probably would have wussed out at the Viewpoint.
