Is it just me, or does everyone want younger drivers off the road?

    Let me set the scene.
Was on main street in newvidge yesterday, nearly home from college and i wanted to turn off and onto henry street, if anyone knows the area.

Anyways, my side of the road was clear, but the other side was busy enough, and some guy in a punto was trying to get out of the junction i was turning into, so i stopped and let him go first. Meanwhile, some older driver in an almera stopped before the yellow box while the other guy came out. the other side of the yellow box had traffic as well, so it wasnt as if he was gonna go much further. hope that made sense.

So the guy in the punto drove out, gave a wave, and i noticed the almeras window go down and the man shouting something. thank god i couldnt hear him

Anyways, im a 19 yr old driver, my cars far from boy racer, but it seems that no matter what we do, its wrong.

Thanks for lettin me clear my mind :D

older people will always start a sentance with "the problem with young people today is". very annoying and their the first to tell us what is wrong with our driving. i have had loads of near misses involving older people and that weren't my fault

So he could have shouted anything, like fair play lad? Or your door is slighty open? Doesn't alway have to be offensive.

Do young driver always have a chip on their shoulder with older drivers??? ;)

its an unfortunate fact that there are a hell of a lot of irresponsible young male drivers around. most of the crazy driving I see on the road is from young fellas. Im mid 30's now but I remember starting driving around 17-18 and was definately a lot more reckless that I am now.

Its probable down to testosterone or there's some evolutionary reason for young males to be risktakers;)

That said at the risk of being sexist, most of the plain poor control and bad driving I see comes from middle aged women.:D

A lot of women may not be great drivers, but they sure don't go speeding down back roads at 4am and get themselves killed as often as us guys do.

I watched a young guy with what looked to be a Nissan Skyline, or other sort of junk modified motor, in the local community center car park on Saturday rev up and burn rubber. with all the kids around going into the park I'd like to have him off the road. It's difficult not to associate young guys in souped up bangers with aggressive and arrogant driving behaviour.

A lot of drivers over fifty are bad drivers and have bad attitudes to anyone else on the road. Not all of them of course, but some of them are dreadful and don't know how to use the road, particularly motorways. Here are the most common over fifty things I come across.

    • Not merging. (I'm not letting that f*cker in front of me)
    • Driving in the overtaking lane. (I'm going the speedlimit)
    • Flashing and beeping at people for perfectly safe overtaking.
    • Trying to police the road themselves. (blocking a lifeboat man trying to get on board!!!!)
    • Indicating right when taking the second exit off roundabouts.
    • Tailgating
    • General bad manners on the road. (pulling up to the bumper of the car in front when someone is trying to get out...)
    • No seatbelt. (I have a bad back)
    • Drink driving.

Again, not all drivers over fifty do this, but a lot do.

Edit.... But, after all, the statistics show, rural young drivers are the ones dying on the roads, so they are the bad drivers I guess...

This is a good example of peoples total IGNORANCE to cars and young drivers.

A Nissan Skyline is a long way from a junker, if you said fiesta, saxo, 1.4 civic etc id agree.

Know your cars then come back. Then stop tarring people with the same brush.

Although some muppets do get hold of skylines and do wheelspins and whatever unimpressive crap my granny could do, they are muppets, ive seen muppets in BMW 7 series and mercs doing similar things on a public road which IMO is far more dangerous.

who am i to criticize what cars you like, Im sure a saxo is great for what its designed for(not racing).

but its not in the same league as a skyline;)

the car could have been a modified piece of junk though; big exhaust, plane wing spoiler, go faster stripes etc. just because it's a skyline doesn't mean it has to be a glorious car.....

I can understand the tarring though, there were kids around and it's absolute ignorance to do that ****e.

a lot of people drive without getting lessons and feel they can control the road. they have no experience of aquaplaning on a motorway, slowing down to turn a hairpin corner or even using the fast lane correctly. driving is about experience and good manners. If every driver used good manners on the road then there wouldn't be that many accidents or disgruntled middle aged drivers (sorry for pigeonholing but it's true)

Btw with regards to roundabouts and indicating for the second exit. If the second exit is more than 90 degrees from your entry point then you can indicate right. what annoys me is dickheads that don't actually know what an indicator is on a roundabout or those that don't even use their mirrors on a roundabout.....

Maybe just maybe the engine is loud because it has modified head, manifolds, ecu, turbo, bored out custom SS manifold? Some of these lads put serious money into the cars, especially if they are starting with a skyline as a platform!!
I would imagine a skyline would have these type of mods. Now go faster stripes, bean can exhaust and dumbass spoilers are mostley exclusive to , 17 year old muppets with no taste driving 4 cylinder 1.0 engines, such as fiesta, saxo, 106, corsa etc etc.:D

    :D:D:D so true.

Statisics are a great thing BUT anytime you see a crash site on the news, the majority of the crashed cars are just standard cars:confused:

Anytime i pass a crash its just standard cars. Anytime i go to a scrapyard, the writeoffs are mostley standard cars. And family cars at that.

one thing that drives me bleedin mad.

Without trying to start an argument about roundabouts....

In a nutshell, when you come to a roundabout, unless it is marked or signposted otherwise then the left lane is for going left or straight through.

When it comes to two lane on one lane off roundabouts, a lot of people go on the right lane to go straight through, and I'm always wary of them when I'm exiting.

But when they do exit and cut across you, many of them look at you as if you are totally in the wrong!

I always think this happens with some older drivers, who then look at me and assume I'm in the wrong just because I'm young!

But that being said, if they've been driving that way for years, they won't change the way they'd take a roundabout, and they'll probably assume anyone, regardless of age, in the left lane is wrong.

Fair enough. Either a tosser or you did something wrong. Best thing, do get worked up about it, people who think they are right will always shout abuse.

so true. i have plenty a neighbour that spend a lot of money on import cars and are just clueless. one fella bought a black Altezza and painted it yellow with black Mustang stripes on the bonnet. Muppet go mór!!!!

true true. The only mod cars I have seen at a crash are baby boy drivers. majority are standard big boy cars such as your A4, 5 series. They are indeed penis extensions. Ego is a worrying thing when driving. Statisitcs mean **** all on roads, it's the driver not the car. Unfortunately no person is a safe driver because you have to adapt to your environment which a lot of people do not know how to, hence writing off their precious 20k + vehicle. Fiestas (exception of 01 upwards) and Saxos are useless when it comes to crashes, no protection whatsoever

don't let their looks put you down. Let them crash into you and have them fund your new vehicle is what I say. Roundabouts are simple to understand but so many people just ignore it and I find that a lot of these cases come down to the instructor not informing the driver in the first/second lesson.

    Roundabouts 101:
    Left lane for 1st/2nd exit
Right lane for 3rd exit upwards

a simple hand gesture rectifies these situations

Their looks don't put me down. Just the ignorance irritates me! :)

I've driven countless miles at this stage. All over Ireland and Northern Ireland and come across many idiots on the road. But that is one thing that still always bugs me! The people who don't know how to use roundabouts.

Nearly got wiped out once by a guy in a BMW X5 cutting into my lane!

roundabouts niggle me as well. It's a simple understanding for drivers. the worst are the drivers that stay between the two lanes on a roundabout or the idiots that actually have not got a clue of what "right of way" is!!!!

Yes, the famous X5 drivers. had a few experiences with them. Born sitting high on a pedestal exempt from any road law (again not pigeonholing every X5 driver just the w*nker X5 drivers out there).

Would you prefere it on a open road where its gonna put other peoples lives at risk or would you prefere it in a car park where its just a little bit of harmless fun and no one gets hurt?

Anyway I doubt he was under 23-25 due to the fact that its pretty hard to get insured on a skyline, and Im gonna assume its turbo as a non turbo skyline would be lucky to spin the wheels on a wet road.

how do you know no one could get hurt? it's a public car park. just because it's not on a public road doesn't mean it's not accident prone. i think it's bollocks the way that people come into car parks, housing estates, main roads, etc and act the big boy/girl/person in their cars. Cars are designed to go from "A" to "B" or "B" to "A" if you're inclined. Not for mucking around like a vegetable.

Thats funny because I was reading your post and thinking the same exact thing, except when I look they seem to always be younger drivers.
