Sad to read that Collie Moran has had to retire due to his hip injury. He had surgery a few months ago and was training to be back in time for the Meath game but his hip is still bothering him after a recent club game.

This is a blow as I thought Moran would have fitted in well in the half backs along with some of the new players like Bastic and maybe Cian O Sullivan.

I wish Collie all the best and thanks for his service down through the years.

Got a real shock last night when I heard the news.

Can't really add much more to what has been said already. Hard to believe that I was sitting exams in the RDS three years ago and both Collie and Peadar Andrews were there that day and now both of them have been lost to the game.

Best of luck in the future Collie and hopefully you can be an inspiration to other young players.

Remember being at the Dubs v Laois minor game back in '98 with some Laois lads from college and thinking that he was going to be a superstar but those bloody injuries and unfortunately, his versatility never enbaled him to nail down a consistent starting 15 place which is unfortunate.

A vastly underrated unsung hero in the blue and navy.

Disappointing to hear him have to retire, but I think his role has been slightly exaggerated. Chances are very high that he wouldn't have got his game this year anyway.

Cheers to Collie for all he did. A pity his career ended this way.

As a Meath man I must say, I did rate him was always a solid player for the Dubs.

One less of you lot to worry about in June anyway!

Best of luck to him in the future

He always gave a 100%, sad to see his career cut short so early. Cheers for the effort Collie.

Huge blow for the Dubs, he was a great player at half forward and half back.

    I wish him well.

Sad day for us dubs, sad day for collie. I feel this will hurt him more than any injury or series of injuries ever could, such is the heart on sleeve, all or nothing attitude, drive dedication he brings. No doubt we'll see him in some capacity, at county level in the not to distant future.:D

Sad to see him retire from the game but sometimes it was infuriating watching him play

I'm sure this will spur a lot of the current panel on this summer and use Collie's retirement as motivation to put in a massive performance in our quest to bringing Sam home!

He was so unfortunate in 2006 to be county captain but play such a bit part role due to injury.

In all honesty he was fortunate to hold his place for so many games in the Pillar Caffrey era. A decent solid player but never any more than that. Best of luck to him all the same.

Yeah I'm not sure about all this "great player" stuff but I suppose that's always the way when a fella has to pack it in.

Won't be much of a loss to the Dublin panel, but sad to see such an honest player who always tried his heart out forced out of the game by injury.

Best of luck to him in future.

I'm probably being a bit controversial here (as always but don't jump blue brigage)...

Its sad to see any player forced out of the game but it always amazed me how this player remained in the Dublin panel for so long, let alone how he was captain.

I'm sure he tried his hardest but my fondest memory of him would be a player with explosive pace who could fly past 3 or 4 backs, only to kick the ball a mile wide. I actually remember him doing that several times against Kerry in the two games in Thurles in 2001 (was it, could have been 2000, someone correct me?).

I think the people on here calling him a great player should look back over previous posts they had on previous years.

Sad to see a dedicated player go but he certainly wasn't great.

His free kicks were torture to watch him missing them from the 21
