They're not german style plates. They're big fat numbers & letter...don't really like them myself, each to their own though.

    These are german style plates....

Des Cullen plates are yuk imo... German ones seem to be in vogue these days, they look well. In general, im against 'fancy' number plates, i think they make a nice car look cheap/tacky. Imo they are in the same bracket as buying things/bits that stick on to your car in Halfords.

^^ lafors: Where did you get them done? Thinking of getting a pair myself.

And, are the Irish county name, and the IRL/Euro flag pressed too? Or are they just stickers?

Anyone have a pic of the Des CUllen plates?

    Thats them B00MSTICK, Yuk :pac:

Oh and german plates only look good on german marques...

I could see the appeal if you had a "personalised" numberplate such as xx-x-911 or whatever but if you just have a bog standard plate I don't think there's much to shout about.

Yeah, doesn't look great. Far too chunky.

The German plates, however, look class. I might go the whole shebang and even use a Bavaria sticker instead of the Euro flag.... :D

German style plates look good on any performance car, even more when they are LHD. When Autocar or Car Magazine etc are testing a brand new model say a Fast Ford, German plates look every bit as authentic on them as on a VW. After all they are plates for German registered cars, not German manufactured ones. But VAG fanboys like to claim them as their own.:D

Those Des Cullen and most fancy plates with bold or italic fonts and reference to a cars engine i.e Passat Tdi 130 et all are a bit chav as are the chrome number plate surrounds. I'm for proper pressed metal plates in standard font all the way (like Windsor Motors do), not cheap perspex and especially on an expensive car.

I got them from the link on vagdrivers, very happy with them.
Plates are pressed, only the county name is stuck on and it hasn't come off yet with all the cleaning it gets.

Ye all do realize why it is that "german style" plates look the way they do, yes?

It's because that type of font was proven to be machine readable with the least quote of errors :D

Thanks, I'll be getting them in a few weeks. Are they the same place which is off Parnell St, Radiator Services, I think?

(I don't have a credit card/paypal account at the moment, so it would be handier to drop into them).

That heavy font is not legal in any case, and will fail you your NTC, if understand correctly

I prefer the plates which have the white missing from the centre of the D, the 8 or the 0. They must be the least machine readable. ;)

to me those look cheap and tacky, the kind of thing that wannabe gangsters/lowlifes and their girlfriends put on their cars down here in limerick. along with the silly fake chrome number plate surrounds, tacky huge chrome wheels and other ghastly adornments. it's all about the bling with that lot. same with some of the less nice areas up in dublin, there's always those types.

the german ones are cool looking, but askin for trouble if you use them on the road

I think you can pick them up anywhere shiny tracksuits and "all-day" pyjamas are sold. You can also get €5 vouchers off these plates in any 12 pack of Dutch Gold.
