Just managed to take a quick look at a copy of Bird Watch Ireland's mag this month and see that the first official report of the cuckoo being heard was the 20th of March in Co.Cork

We recorded the cuckoo here in Donegal on April 16th this year.

Maybe the Cork one is a misprint? :)

Saw a pair of them at the weekend up in the Bluestacks in Donegal. They were being mobbed by a much smaller unidentified bird that was obviously not best pleased at them being in their neighbourhood for obvious reasons.

Well Cork is the sunny South so perhaps they hung out there a while before flying on to Mayo and Donegal :D:D:D

I don't think there is any reason to disbelieve the report.

We are in the Bluestacks to maybe that is the same one we hear; yes, smaller birds will mob them. And with good reason.
