don't know if thishas already been discussed but
    l
Saddo boxing. com "Looks as if Floyd Mayweather Jr could be fighting Juan Manuel Marquez on July 18. According to a report out by ESPN, parties representing Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Juan Manuel Marquez are negotiating a bout between the two fighters.

Richard Schaefer, who is the CEO for Oscar De La Hoya's Golden Boy Promotions, who represent Marquez, confirmed to ESPN that they are working on the bout. Schaefer provided no further details.

Another source, not named, tells ESPN that Mayweather Jr's return would be on July 18, not July 11 as first reported. The reason for the change of date is due in part because of UFC 100 which will air on July 11. That is a Pay-Per-View event they do not want to compete against"

this would be some unreal fight, i presume at light-welter,
it just sounds too good to be true, i hope not.

Surely this is just Oscar-Manny with less chance of it backfiring for the bigger guy?
At light welter fair enough but this will happen at 145ish, Marquez wants it closer to 140, Mayweather wants it closer to 147 which is where it will be id say.

Mayweather is setting himself up for 2-3 massive paydays against smaller men.

Marquez wasnt even a super feather all that long and Mayweather outgrew that division in 2001/2.

    Yawn...

When will money actually earn his cash. I'd love to see him back in the ring but not against an aging Marquez.

The bout is listed on boxrec: http://www.boxrec.com/date_search.php?yyyy=2009&mm=07&dd=18

Mayweather will school him if it happens. I'd like to see it at light-welter if it does, it would be only fair.. and Mayweather could make light-welter if he wanted to.

Yep if this happens it prob be at LW - with Floyd stopping him before the drain of fighting at 10st. takes any major effect (before the later rounds - maybe 6 or 7)

I'm so so excited about this. PBF is really doin' his utmost to
    cement that legacy:rolleyes:

It really is bull****, even at 140.

Marquez is a very small Lightweight(I'd wager he can still make 130 without too much trouble but fights above that for bigger paydays), and was hurt by the light-punching Juan Diaz at Lightweight.

The only way this would be interesting is if Floyd had to make 138 lbs, and therefore was killing himself to make weight......which would just be dangerous and stupid.

So back to my original point of this is bull****.

Even acceding to the view that PBF was/is a small welterweight fighter, he is still too far gone in maturity to be expected to fight at 140 lbs or lower.

I cannot see this bout being at 140 or lower. Maybe they will go to 144/145; but that would be the limit.

As you said Big, JMM himself is a small 135 lb man!

It's a bout that doesn't interest me one minutia!

Its really one of those fights where you say how does a super featherweight Mayweather (2001 aged 24) fare against a superfeather marquez (2007 aged 34)

Because had the two of them been in their prime in the same division that would be some fight. 140 is almost a level playing field but still in favour of Floyd imo as long as he had time to prepare. Anything above that its just too much. Money talks I suppose. What other fights are available to Marquez?

IMO, there is only one winner there. The PBF who dismantled Corrales or Vargas would have too
much for most 130 lb men ever. JMM is a really good fighter, but not in
    Floyd's league at peak!

His old man always said that he WOULD have to come back if he continued on living the lifestyle he was living and I guess that he was right.

I think this is a warm up for winner of Hatton Paquaio.
