    Hi guys n gals,

I am just looking for a few recommendations for the above. I don't have any amps so I usually just use the inbuilt stuff on Logic. I am kinda getting sick of them at this stage.

Am I the only one here doing this? Should I hang my head in shame?

Anyway, I can't really afford a top end amp at the moment so I am looking for a few recommendations for software simulators. Even the free ones, if you have tried them.

    Thanks

    Rockshamrover.

Haven't tried it myself but I've heard nothing but praise about Guitar Rig 3

Hi Domrush, I actually tried the demo version of this.

You can download it from the Native Instruments website.

You get to try it for 30 minutes. It does sound great but I thought it was a bit pricey at 499.00 euro. I could probably by a half decent amp for that price.

    Thanks for the info.

That's the price for it with the controller/interface. Software only edition is much cheaper. I use it myself, been meaning to give it ago wit Mick's orange 4x12 impulses...

There are loads of quality free ones floating about the net but what amp are you looking to emulate??

Yeah the amp sim in Logic is pretty weak...

I don't know about free, but amplitube or guitar rig would be the two majors, or if you use protools theres eleven, which is good.

Yeah I'd like to hear of any good freeware ones...

I've used Guitar Rig for a year or two, dead handy. Started off with a demo but I got the lite version soon after, its definitely worth it.

Hi, I have guitar rig and amplitube and both are great for clean, to cracking tele sounds....

THe distortions are synthetic and nothing like they're names, but ideal for throwing down and idea....

dont go in thinking your gonna get decent tones because you really wont :( sorry to say.... little 5 watt valve amp with 2 knobs is hat you want saying tone and volume :) awesome weapons !!

Hey thanks for all the input guys.

I suppose I am looking for as many amp sounds as I can get. PMI, your point regarding just having a little amp was very interesting, maybe I should just go that route.

    What does everyone else think?

If you have a great sounding room with a nice amp & a half decent mic (e.g. SM57), then there’s probably little value in getting amp sims (most people would say you can't beat the real thing).

However, if (like a lot of people) you have a box room/bedroom studio with dodgy acoustics, then an amp sim has a lot to offer. They’re supposedly not really for the purists, but I’ve heard a few people say they can’t tell the difference.

I use AmpliTube stuff all the time (I got some free with Pro Tools initially, but then bought some others too). I really like AmpliTube Live 2. It's only €75 & gives lots of options. It certainly gives you lots of sound options. If you don’t like it, you can always sell it on.

If you have a small amp, you have the option to re-amp the original signal, so you give yourself even more options. I also have a small 10w practice amp with a nice overdrive sound, so I use that sometimes.

Wagner Sharp MkII and 7170 by nick crow great little amp sims for distorted sounds Tss is a great tube screamer sim just like in real life you should put this in the signal chain before your amp sim to tighten the low end.

SoloC is another great amp sim for metal and rock distorted tones

You can then use a free IR loader to load up some sweet free impulses floating about around the net. There is some nice ones in the free demo of recabinate for example

Head on over here to chat with some amp sim nuts http://www.guitarampmodeling.com/

Hey when i say little amp head i mean a true 5 watt monster, that you drive the tits out of....

the best one I tried was up in clara, made by valvepower little black thing about size of showbox, and a sound to kill for !!

look online for 5 watt - 15 watt amps if ya want but they are still to loud for home use....

Wow lots of things to take into consideration.

Thanks a lot for all the advise. I will have to mull it all over and make a decision.

I never heard of the stuff you suggested Progsound, I will definitely check them out thanks.

    Cheers.

Decent man Progsound, Unfortunately I can't use them all as I am on a Mac but thanks a lot for posting these links. No doubt some of the other guys can use these.
