I'm currently driving a 318i which I've had some problems with and some of the posts on there sound familiar.

Issues aside it's a great car to drive in fairness. Looks like you can just be unlucky with the one you get.

Anybody have any thoughts on why this is so cheap relative to a standard 320i? Looks in great condition with fairly low mileage. Am I correct to presume it would need more regular servicing than a regular 3-series?

I'd say it would be as reliable or more reliable as it does not have bmw's variable valve timing so less moving parts. Engine's are hand assembled and the car was released as a homologation for world touring racing.
