I have a 1.4 Golf (MK 5) and I might need to replace the exhaust / catalytic converter. There is on 43k miles on the clock. I have been told that only a VW dealer can source the parts. Can this be true??

Has any body had any experience on this and how much will this cost?

Would much applicate if any body could help.....

I don't think that is true. Most exhaust centres like Fast Fit, etc will be able to fit a spurious exhaust to your Golf. You should be able to pick up a spurious cat converter for a Golf too I'd imagine.
