Nikon Capture NX V2 or Photoshop?

Decided that my next "investment" will be in some decent PP software. I'm not big into PP, and just couldn't imagine spending a long time trying to adjust shots, but I'd like to be able to try new effects.
I see there are loads of "filters" and adjustments that can be downloaded for photoshop, and that looks great, but expensive.

    OR.....

should I just stick with buying Nikon Capture NX as my RAW file manager and image software? It's still not cheap though, so should I go the extra money and get photoshop?

Any advice needs to be in "simpleton" language, but will be appreciated :D

    There's always Adobe Lightroom.
Heck if you want to aviod spending any cash at all have a look at Picassa or the GIMP.

You can get free 30 day trials of Adobe software on their website. Get them and try them out.
