Night guards for grinding teeth - how costly??

    Hey,

I've been told by my dentist that I grind my teeth and that I've worn them down a good bit now. She has advised me for the past year or so to get a night guard.

She has quoted me €400, subsequently dropping the price to €350 after she saw how shocked I was. Just wondering if anyone has gotten a night guard fitted and did they pay a similar price???

    Cheers,

    Paul

Saw guard in chemist other day, especially for Bruxism (said it on the box!) and it was around the ten euro, i think, just looked like a gum shield, chemist in galway but they must be readily available, even online, worth a shot anyway, . IMHO, it beats 350 yo yos!!!

My denist charges €230 but I've chomped my one away so badly that I've been sent to a specialist to make a longer lasting one. The cheapo chemist job ones don't compare to a proper guard made by a dental technician. The one from your dentist will be fitted/trimmed etc - the cost varies depending on the materials. The harder resin ones cost more that the plasticy ones. I had resin ones with metal clips and found that once the clips got loose the guard didn't fit right and I'd get pains in my jaw etc. The plastic ones have a softer layer inside at your teeth and a harder outer layer that gets grinded down - never had any pain with these. At the of the day - what you spend now to protect your teeth will cost less than root canals etc when they're worn down/broken.
