    Hi all

Basic question really, to those more au fait with satellite sytems than myself.. I have just (or will shortly) acquired a free to air satellite system, SD not HD, and a satellite dish. Just wondering, do these come with instructions to install or is it a complex job for which i would be better getting an engineer in to do it (i have no current satellie system, just basic NTL, which will be unnafected by this)

I'll only say I managed it, so you can too :)

The dish set up is straightforward enough - where the bolts go becomes self-evident, mounting the bracket will be the most awkward bit depending on where you are putting it.

Heres a thread to read over

Go for it - provided you're not bad at diy... It's no more difficult than mounting anthing to a brick wall - or wiring a plug / ceiling lights etc. The only tricky bit is the dish alignmenet - but even that isn't too hard - you might waste an hour or so like I did before correcting the elevation... doh !

If you can wire a plug and hang a picture you can do it. I set up my Sat4Free system, ran cables through walls & floors and was watching TV within a couple of hours. Lots of good advice here; dishpointer showed me exactly where to point, elevation is the key as has been said.

+1 lots of people install their own systems, worst case is you have to get somebody to help you if you cant manage it.

yes dishpointer.com is a site i highly recommend if you struggle or want the heads up to the correct "Facing" of a satellite dish. Also a plum vertical/horizontal bracket is required. Dont take to much notice of the elevation scale on the backs of dishes, ive found these are more than un accurate & just really a rough guide.

When i recently moved house i used dishpointer to make my decision on what house i moved to so i made sure i got mount my motorized system in the back garden!

Maybe a good idea to secure the dish low so you can have a play before bolting it to a wall, that way you will have some idea where to point it and gain experience before the final setup.

A handy item is a satfinder also, you just might know someone that got one from aldi/lidl and I'm sure they would loan it to you for the setup.
