    Folks,
Looking for some help here I have a 2001 Toyota Corolla VVTI with 61900 miles on it and I assume it is due a timing belt although I heard from other lads that there is a timing chain in them that does not need changing
    Is this the correct

Corolla VVTi has chain, not belt.

Chain can wear / rattlle / need replacing if the car was not properly maintained (insufficient oil changes etc). Also chain is typically a lot more expensive to replace than a belt. However, under normal circumstances a chain should not need to be replaced, and not routinely as is the case for a belt.

Correct, VVTI Does not have a belt, it has a chain.

As above, it's a chain not a belt, it only needs changing if it starts to rattle, which is unlikely at 69k
