    SIPTU have set a deadline of May 1st for the Government to agree on a recovery plan with the social partners or else they will begin a sustained campaign of presumably major and widespread strike actions.

    Now it just depends on how unrealistic/realistic their demands will be at the negotiating table.

    Yeah, there's a thread on the main politics forum about it, although not much life in it.

    Unrealistic I'd imagine. What will be interesting to see is how much they actually support the ordinary worker versus just their members. Any action they take will potentially have ruinous consequences for all those non-union members, such as being unable to get into work if there's transport strikes.

    Then that's apart from the fact that they'll want taxes, levies, etc. reverted but not come up with any decent plan (as opposed to their 10-point plan) for how to get out of the mess other than "make the rich pay".
