Cycling and diabetes

    Hi,
I'd like to know if some people would like to get together to promote diabetes awareness during some cycling events.
The idea would be to take part to some cycling events as such Tour de Cure, Tour of Kildare, Sean Kelly Challenge .... and show people that Diabetes (T1 or T2) is not an obstacle to sports and promote cycling as a very good way to manage diabetes.
I'm aware that cycling events have already their charities, the goal is not to raise money for a diabetes organisation but to help people to understand what diabetes is and the benefits off getting active. One idea would be to wear a cycling top with a diabetes logo (or whatever) to start conversation with other people as some people might be afraid to start cycling because of their conditions and they could benefits from experienced diabetes cyclists.
I'm hoping to get some interests to see this project going. If anybody is interested reply to this thread or PM me and see what we can do.
    Thanks in advance,
    Fred

well speaking from my own point of view, I find my diabetes(type 1) a very personal thing and i dont like to advertise the fact i have and i'm sure alot of other people are the same.
I thing that there are very few things that it stops me from doing and its never stopped me doing anything, i just have to plan things more than others.
i did the Dublin Marathon last year in the time i wanted to with no problems from my diabetes, just alot more testing and trial and error with different drinks, gels etc. and i'm just starting cycling now, which is ok since its easier to carry food on the bike. I got lots of good information from 2 people on this forum but i cant think of their usernames now.
I'd be interested to know more about what your doing, you can PM if you have more information or whatever.

Interestingly, the founder of Team Type 1 is a Man of Ras. The year was 2003.

TT1 have also competed successfully on the Tour of Ireland.

I'm not sure who you are talking to with TT1/TT2, but if you need contact info for Phil, PM me.
