    RTÉ News this morning:
Minister aims to halt fall in bicycle use

    Monday, 20 April 2009 09:15

A comprehensive strategy to halt the sharp decline in the number of people using bicycles will be published later today.

It is expected that the strategy, to be published by Minister for Transport Noel Dempsey, will aim to have one out of ten commutes made by bicycle by 2020.

Between 1986 and 2006, the number of primary-level pupils cycling to school dropped by 83%, while the number of adults commuting by bicycle fell from 7% to 2% over the same period.
