    Right so ,

How many people out there are feeling it this morning? You know what I mean,Sun burn , Tired from over dioing it and chafing from from wareing summer kit that you just are a little big for after the winter hibernation.
Our club spin yesterday the amount of red faces eg burnt noses and cheeks with big white eyes from actually wareing uber cool sunglasses for what they were ment for rather than in the car dimming winter glare.
I have 2 red bands on my shins coz I wore 3/4s at the copper coast sportive on Saturday. Thankfully I found the aloe vera last night so that soothes the pain.
It was worth it. What does everyone else think or feel this morning?
I did 100 k over the weekend which is about 30 k more than usual.

    SPF50 is your friend.

    Lobsters are not euro.

    Funny guy:D
I had the factor 30 on yesterday and I thanked god that I did!

Also, regarding the chafing, I've started using this under the chamois cream:

    BGlide_antiblister.gif

    Seems to work well.

Thankfully, I'm one of those terrible foreign types that don't burn (or I've never to my knowledge got sunburn), so I have some nice tanlines, but no lobster action going on :)

I made that mistake on Saturday alright with my 120km spin, and man did my calves hurt in the shower, no amount of after sun would heel the pain!! Yesterday the factor 30 was used so no issues for my 80km spin, although was also later in the evening!!

Still was so worth the pain, such a beautiful weekend to be out! :D

I'm using that stick as well and boy is it good. I lost a month this year due to chaffing followed by infection and then skin like tissue paper as it got better. The fact that it's not cream is great and the hotter you get the better it seems to work:D

Mysterious bright red bands on the wrists... a funny slash of scarlet on the upper arm where the warmer slipped down... and roasted bits of skin still dropping off nose and cheeks. A great way to spend a Saturday.

I've a line across each calf muscle as I was wearing knee warmers all weekend. Also have a nice faint red band on the arms were the gloves and jersey left a gap. Should be a nice brown band in no time :)

Like Tiny, I am lucky enough not to need suncream in this country. So not burnt but looking in the mirror Sunday it was certainly obvious I was out in the fresh air the day before.

No sunburn but a warm glow of satisfaction.

About 3k into the wicklow gap climb yesterday morning with a friend of mine and were passed slowly by t*at's ... we've all seen them ... young guys in parents cars beeping ... laughing ... shouting inaudible crap from the safety of their micra. Unfortunately this time around felt a shove from behind but managed to keep control - got the license and a good luck at gloating idiot. Worst part was it got into my head and wrecked the first half of my climb resulting in me getting my as* served to me by my mate ;)

Anyhow - on returning home - rang wicklow guards, gave full description and reg. - wasnt expecting much but felt duty bound to report it. Got a call a few minutes later saying that the boys father was none to pleased to hear his jeep was used in the incident - he passed names and numbers of boys friends to guard. The guard sounded pretty pleased with himself and was taking it upon himself to threaten the merry little f*cks with the book.

As cyclists we're entirely at the mercy of the concentration of those driving up from behind us. They're some patient people out there driving their cars on the roads and then there's the idiots. Im hoping they're in the minority but you do wonder ... Im typically a sceptic but my advice is if you can get the number report it ... whether it all actually happened as I was told Ill never know but the guards attitude in wicklow station that I spoke to was spot on.

Cracking day out and even availed of some free marshalling on the N81 on my route back ...

I don't burn easily except on my nose which more than makes up for it, but I would wear suncream anyway, so I don' get a tan unless it's very hot.

Pretty white at the moment, not very euro at all!

I still had my tan lines from last year. Just a case of the contrast starting to increase again.

LDB and myself agreed that you were decidedly the most euro of all of us from Saturday.

A big tub of lithium grease will double up as chamois cream.

You have sunstroke. Go lie down.

I got a sunburn strip on my thighs where my shorts stopped and feel very euro. Sunscreen on the back of the neck though, importante.

    ...

Reminds me of a similar story where my brother was out with the Comeragh club here in Waterford and an idiot hanging out a car window threw water all over the bunch as the car passed, laughing and not knowing among the cyclists was an off duty Garda who also got the reg, a very sheepish chap arrived at the club chairmans home that night full of apologies and made a €50 donation to club funds, nice to see the mindless gob****es getting their comeuppance every now and again.:P

It was inspired by a boardsie who told me he did a whole Saturday spin with a squeeky chain. I said he should have stopped off at a chemist and bought some 'sexy lube' or baby oil and just used that on his chain.

I did a few rides in Spain without gloves to try and even it out a bit.

Third post in one minute (I should multipost more).

Tan lines are fine on Arms, Legs, Hands but I have tan lines on my face from helmet straps down the face and sunglasses across the face. My 4 month old baby smiles when he sees me and I know thats cause daddy looks like the 'Kung Fu Panda'.

Yeah, my calves each have vertical lines in the middle splitting the white from the red, and the face and nose are feeling a bit tender still today. Worst on Saturday evening was the back of my knees though.

Ok so seeing as a lot of people got sunburnt this weekend can anybody suggest a good sun screen that last all day, went into Boots at lunch and they have a new "extreme" soltan range designed for sports, sounds promising, but when I checked the label you need to reapply every 1-2 hours, so no diff to all the other ones! I asked they pharmacist there and she said there was no better alternative! Surely there has to be a good once a day sun screen??

Buy a very small one and stick it in your back pocket.

Could be the only way round it!! But would much prefer to have it done before I leave the house and then not worry about it again though!

Nivea factor 30 is grand. I think a lot of that sunscreen "apply every 2 hours" is either (a) like shampoo rinse and repeat to make you use more or (b) to avoid people launching ridiculous lawsuits against them because they applied it a week ago and ended up getting sunburn after falling asleep in their back garden.

They also do an aloe vera after sun spray which helps to reduce the damage done by any resulting sunburn.

Apply a good factor 30 before heading out and stick a little tube in your back pocket like Raam says to apply to any areas that start to burn on the spin.

    EDIT: nivea-sun-spray-spf30-size-200ml.jpg and 588939_l.jpg

Piz Buin have one called - 1 day long lotion..think its available in 15SPF & 30SPF.
I've been using it for a few years now...and I think it's brilliant..I've even used it on my 2yr old cousin and he's never out or away from water.
I use it as soon as the sun makes an appearance...and although I do re-apply every now and then (fear of becoming a panda i think) the protection lasts quite well.
Its a little expensive over here, but worth the money I think.
(small hint...I keep my after sun in the fridge...I always think it works better :) )

yo ... most of you Irish people need more than factor 30 at the begining and remember that you are all sweating on the bike, so even if the bottle says, 1 application last the day, after 2 hours you WILL HAVE TO reapply, or you will cook ( salty skin too might burn more )!!!
Now I may be french with Spanish parents, I have very white skin and I need to reapply too ...

I hate being burned even slightly. I use this from piz buin http://www.pizbuin.com/mountain_suncare_ultra_protection50.jsp

I had it on on sunday and didn't get burned. You need to re-apply every now and then. Comes in a very small squezy bottle, easy to carry.

Are you sure you got the correct reg. I wouldn't imagine there was 93700 cars sold in Wicklow in 2000. I also doubt that many were imported since to bring it up to that number.

Cold after sun is a very nice feeling alright!!

And used that Piz Buin last year when in Croatia alright and didn't get burned but did apply again after swimming as instructed so once again still have the re applying issue! Maybe a mix of it and P20 might be the best!
