Bit of a random question I know and probably fairly difficult to answer but if an average person wanted to become carbon neutral by planting trees how many trees per year would be needed to do it?

It appears to go like this:

Depending on the type of tree planted, the tree will absorb between 700-1000kg (maby more) of Co2 during the course of its lifetime,

Your carbon footprint could range from 10 to 15 tonnes Co2 per annum,

therefore you would need to plant

    700kg @ 10 tonne/pa = 14 trees pa
    1000kg @ 10 tonne/pa = 10 trees pa
    700kg @ 15 tonne/pa = 21 trees pa
    1000kg @ 15 tonne/pa = 15 trees pa

But it not as simple as planting the trees. The lifetime of the tree has to be Guaranteed for this to work.

Cheers, all I was looking for was a very rough calculation as I know there are a whole lot of variables.
