VRT - Why so many UK cars here?

    There seems to be a lot of UK cars around at the moment.
    Any truth in the rumour that if you have a Northern Ireland address and license for a while, you can keep the car registered in the North? I heard of people who have rented a cheap room in Derry straight out of daft just to get an address up there.

    people possibly think that tricks like that work but they will be surprised once they go to register the car and have no bills and evidence of living there to back up the claims.

    Its due to your Reticular Activating System - seeing more doesnt mean there is more.

    There isnt more about, but there has been a lot more publicity thrown on them via VRT clampdowns, Garda Checkpoints and possible VRT changes. You are aware of this and subconsciously (and perhaps consciously too) are "logging" them more.

    I've not really noticed and increase in UK cars around, if anything I think there's less and also I am not spotting as many LT/LV/PL cars around either, looks like the recession is clearing them out.

    If your home address is a northern one you do not have to VRT it here, but you would need bills and possibly a northern PPS number to be able to do that.

    Would only work for people who are from the north and happen to work in the republic I reckon.

    Correct - you need to be able to prove residency and that means bills, bank statements, etc. Owning/renting a property is not sufficient
