    Hi

Anyone know how can someone become a commissar? Is there a course you need to take etc?

    Thanks in advance

There was a course run in February this year. There's usually one a year so you'll have to wait until next year. Keep an eye on the Irishcycling and Cyclingireland websites for news.

there was indeed a course last february... shame on me .. I was supposed to it :( but I was in a arm cast all winter and wanted to get out on the bike that weekend. They are run by irish cycling. There is only 1 woman ( irc ) in the country. Will prob do it next time round.

To share your blushes and future misunderstandings, forgive me for pointing out that the term 'commissar' applies to Russian communist/Bolshevik officials and has not been used for some time.

In cycling we have Commissaires, from the French language, meaning approximately 'inspector'. Not to be confused with 'commissionaire'...

But to show respect to your question, I would suggest volunteering to either drive or to assist a commissaire with his/her note-taking. This would be a very good way to gain insight into how a good commissaire applies the rules. It will really help you understand if this sometimes thankless job is for you.

Yea I did that course in Febuary .It was the first one in about 2 years. I would imagine if cycling ireland were to get 5 or 6 definates they would run another.
Your best bet would be to get in touch with the college of Commisares who organise the courses. Gary McIlroy is probably your best bet

Just get in touch with the office and let them hnow you are interested. The sport needs new commisaires so if a few people expressed an interest they would probably arrange a course.
