Online booking system or online payment system??

Paypal isnt a booking system its for accepting online payments...assuming thats what you mean then there is Realex and Worldpay along with a few others..if you clarify what you mean could offer more info.

There are a number of shopping carts out there such as Google Checkout, Yahoo, Amazon, 1shopping cart etc. It's hard to determine which one will meet your needs best. You need a WorldPay account for some shopping carts but I think Google, Yahoo and Amazon provide in house processing and payment. However, they take a much higher % of the sale.

I remember booking a conference through Google Checkout about a year ago. It seemed to work well from a users perspective.

google checkout is very easy to use from a customers point of view, after you register the first time you can make purchases with just a couple of clicks

moneybookers is ok as well but a bit more complex than google c/o

paypal is probably the easiest out of all them but they treat the merchant very badly during disputes so i wouldnt consider them if alternatives are available

I think the real issue is not which works best, but which works best for your customer. Recently I had a problem persuading a potential customer to pay via Paypal, because she hadn't heard of it. Don't mock her, she's a customer, a thing to be nurtured.

Seriously, depends on your customer base. If they're already used to Paypal or credit card payments online in general, then paypal is fine. I've never been asked as a customer to use google checkout. Not widespread yet.

Standard worldpay/realex type CC system needs volume to be justified.

    Hi all

Thanks for the replies, what i am looking for is something that will allow people to book events for x amount of people and on select days on my website. My problem with paypal is it doesnt allow x amount of people or specific date or time. I'd imagine its a booking system i need,my preference would be one that is free to implement on the website but take a chunk of commission for each sale.

Really what you are looking for then is an online booking system with paypal integrated for payment.

You could get something custom developed which would link to a database backend, you could have certain days and times available and people could book them and pay then through paypal. You would need a backend admin area then to change the days and times and prices etc.

I have done similar developments like this in the past using PayPal as the agent to take the payment. Used it for eCommerce sites mostly

Zero, The best solution might be to go with a free shopping cart software and then integrate it to paypal/realex/googlecart or whichever. It's fairly easy to put them together.

Try Zen Cart or Os commerce.

With Zen Cart and Os Commerce is it easy to implement discount codes etc?

Both Zen Cart and OS C, there is a learning curve to get over but yes you can use gateways to put in discount codes such as paypal. The help manual of these shopping programs are easy to understand, do you have cpanel with your host who has Zen Cart / OS C ? Try a few tests out as the install is automatic.

I actually don't use either at the moment, but looking into possibly using one in the future.
    Thanks for the advice.
