Luke Skywalker Sucks.

The other day I watched all 6 Star Wars movies (it was a really long flight).

Now Luke's supposed to be the hero but he's severely lacking IMO.
He must have been a severe dissappointment to poor old Darth.

When he was around 20 years of age, Darth had surpassed most of his
Jedi masters and was soon to become master of almost all that he surveyed.
Luke lived at home on the farm and hung out with his best mate, C3PO.
Luke could just about fix C3.
His dad build him when he was about 6 years old.

Darth was hooked up with a beautiful princess.
Luke wanted to 'get it on' with his sister.

Poor Darth even ended up dying because Luke was too much of a wuss
    to take the Emperor.

Even that 'miracle shot' Luke pulled off into the Death Star is highly dubious IMO.
I suspect that R2D2 was really the one that made that shot.
He just felt sorry for Luke and let him take the credit to give his confidence a boost.

So am I being too harsh on poor old Luke or is he just a waster?

I think you missed the whole point of the original Star Wars.

It's about a simple hometown farm boy who realises his potential extremly late and trains to become a Jedi when he really has no place in doing so.

Anakin was trained from a 6 year old which even Yoda admitted at the time was quite late to begin training somebody but did it regardless..

Plus Anakin was a super genius who loved robots while Luke lived a simple farm existence and didn't have much interest in robotnics..

So yeah. I think you're being just a little harsh.... except for the sister comment.

The Star Wars films are really about the rise, fall and redemption of Anakin Skywalker, Luke isn't as important. It's hugely unfair to criticise the guy for being stuck on a farm, that wasn't his fault! The sister comment, however, is dead on.

My point is that Luke is pretty pathetic compared to Anakin.

Luke did kind of defeat Vader in Return of the Jedi. And thats only after a year or two at jedi training while Vader studied to be a jedi all his life. Result.

Luke was better able to deal with women than his daddy was. Luke may have fancied Princess Leia (and can you blame him?) but he found out the most beautiful woman in the galaxy was his sister he didn't get bitter and instead did the right thing leaving her to get it on with his best friend. Anakin on the other hand basically spent two movies stalking a poor women, eventually impregnating her (under what I can only presume was the influence of the force rather than his own charm?) and eventually killing her because she threw a surprise party for him.

Luke wasn't self concious about his appearance either. He was 5'7 with a terrible haircut but he didn't try to hide it. Even when he got scarred by that snowman in the second movie he didn't wear make-up or a nice scarf to conceal the accident. Anakin on the other hand spent 3 movies vainly playing with his hairdo and even decided to start wearing a mask because his face got burned. When Anakin turned into Darth Vader he even instructed the med team to add an extra 6 inches added to his height. Clearly the guy had got confidence issues.

    Conclusion : Luke >> Anakin.

Your right, Luke did kick Vader's ass in the end, but Vader was past his best at that stage. He was old, half robot and he could barely breath. Its like when Kevin McBride beat Mike Tyson a few years back.

Would Luke be able to beat Anakin in his prime? I dont think so...

To be honest, I'd take Luke's optimism and general disregard for the teachings of Ben and Yoda over whiney pussy Anakin from the original trilogy any day. Anakin and Vader are so vastly different in personality that I do not in any way consider them the same character, no matter what the 'arc' may be. The prequal trilogy is bad fan-fiction. Nothing more. Original trilogy kicks effing arse.

Don't forget they allowed Luke to pilot an X-Wing with no training and he went on to destroy the Death Star. I'll always side with Luke. Sure he was whiney but it worked. Here was this seemingly normal farm boy who pretty much hated his life, thought it was going nowhere, then he gets sucked into this adventure and becomes THE hero of the rebellion. Pure escapist stuff. When I was a kid I wanted to be Luke more than Han even though Han was cooler.
Now, when's my adventure gonna begin? :D

I always felt they made a real balls of the way they portrayed Anakin espically in episodes I & II. I wouldn't consider myself a Star Wars Fan boy I'm just looking at it from what I would consider the best Arc for the story I would have had Anakin in episode I maybe 16-18 years of age and hard as naills but have a mean streak as upposed to a whiney streak.

But given the two I would prob take Luke form ROTJ.

Wouldn't that be like the young apprentice facing the ancient yet wise kung fu master who normally always wins unless he teaches his tricks. Wisdom and experience would make up for physical ailments. Also half robot means he can tap into robotic super strength. For example Murphy in Robocop was clearly stronger as a cyborg. Vader didn't seem to have any problem breathing. In fact he could talk while breathing! How many people can do that?

It's only based on real events.
The names of people and places were altered to avoid more
    legal action.
The producers became cautions after the famous litigation case of 'Skiwanker' Vs 'The Sun Newspapers'.

I was always more a fan of the Empire.

I think Luke did ok, he was basically hidden away, forced into being a space redneck, no training or education up until Obi-wans crash course in the Force (say it ten times real fast), then told he had to save the galaxy from a whole miltary Empire, who have the baddest muthafuggin super warriors (one of which is his dad he didn't even know was alive) as its leaders, with a bunch of other teenage punks and a tall hairy dog creature and just-as-hairy but much smaller midget dog creatures...

    Give him a break! :p

You can only compare the two if Luke had the same training as Anakin. Anakin got 12+ years of full-time proper training from an established and structured organisation. Luke got a couple of days (tops) from Obi-Wan and a few days/weeks from Yoda. Yet he still kicked Vaders arse in ROTJ. The age factor can't make up that kind of experience gap.

Yoda himself, who had been a jedi for 900 years and was pretty darn powerful couldn't take the Emperor, so there was no way Luke could.

Luke was a bit whiney (so was Anakin) but he managed to accomplish a lot from very little and in a really short space of time.

what anakin fight scenes were better?

aside from the darth maul one in episode 1 all the prequel fight scenes were rubbish.

Empire and Jedi have the two best lightsaber battles.

Everyone just read post 3 and leave it that. The rumour is that there were 3 newer films made to tell Anakin Skywalker's story.

Apparently an older Lucas had forgotten why kids like me loved parts IV to VI and thought we liked Ewoks or something equally ridiculous instead of a farm hand becoming a hero, saving princesses and hanging out with a bad ass pirate who shot people under tables before (yes before) they could do the same and a cool older dude who could with the wave of a finger throw you accross a room or affect your mind.

I don't believe he made these newer films at all. If he had I would have to conclude he had been suffering from the same disease that made Arnie insist he play a goodie in T2 and not kill anyone. "Won't someone please think of the children".

It's also a vicious lie that Lucas released special editions of the Star Wars movies with crimes against cinema such as the young Anakin appearing in the camp fire at the end of Jedi.
