    Sequence of Events...

Irritating jingle with tacky CGI intro. Followed by swinging camera angles as Kathryn Thomas and aiden p-something walk onto the set (complete with Argos bought neon lights and flashy bits).

Kathryn Thomas (dressed in the tackiest, most clashing crap from the basement of the RTE costume department) now humours has an auld chat with the culchies contestants. In reality, she makes awkward jokes and fakes awkward laughter at the awkward monosyllabic jokes of the culchies contestants, while pretending she doesn't realize they're imagining her nekkid. Aiden whatshisface (dressed in his finest funeral-wear) makes occasional, awkward, condescending comments to the contestants, usually involving tractors and land (secretly he's thinking these shoes are worth more than your house, inbreeder!!!)

Many rounds of wheel turning, ball picking, soul destroying games later, Ms. Thomas decides to converse with the plebians in the audience. I'm not entirely sure what the point of this is (i zoned out around this time) but it seemed to involve much awkward discussion and forced smiling.

After much scripted, forced banter between Aiden and Kathryn, we now move onto the "big wheel". The importance of this event is shown in the suspenseful music (stolen from the unwanted bin of the "who wants to be a millionaire" sound department) and the sense of suspense imparted by the wonderful hosts. Unsurprisingly the unlucky person picked to spin said wheel gets the lowest possible amount, and smiles through gritted teeth as Aidan gives him a pat on the back and his entire extended family are shepherded on stage.

Brb. Have to go cancel my T.V. license and throw my television into the fires of hell.

Cancelling your TV license won't make it go away :(

Try going out some Saturday night. If you bring your toga, the plebians will leave you alone.

/wonders why you would watch it if you don't enjoy it.

It's absolutely dire, and worse since the 'revamp'. Problem is, it hits such a key demographic that they'd be mad to lose it and to entertain said demographic seems to take VERY little money.

It's hilariously bad. When it's on, I like to put on a culchie accent and shout directions at the TV, just like the audience do. I'd go on it though for all the cash prize monies. Then you'd all be jealous

I would pay the MST3k team to do a Winning Streak episode.

I stopped watching Winning Streak years ago when it started trying to be Stargate.

"Right eh, I'll choose eh, Europa if I may please..."

    Madness.

Sure why would you watch it, the wheels rigged so that only the smaller prizes are won.

You could just not watch it.

Ye Gods, why are you all so quick to attack any programme which has an older demographic? Especially if it's Irish. It clearly isn't aimed at young urban 20 somethings who think they're too cool for school, but older people do have a right to the odd programme they can enjoy, you know. Not everyone likes the American sh**e which clogs up RTE2. OK, the show isn't the best, but it does the job. Clearly if the whole thing is beneath you, you always have the box set of The Wire or another of those shows all the cool folk talk about but which the viewing figures show hardly anyone watches. Unlike Winning Streak.

RTE is always compared to the BBC when it comes to what it does and usually comes out looking very badly but has anyone watched the equivalent British version? There is no minimum prize per contestant. Some weeks not a single penny is given away and the crowd all clap and grin inanely at the end of the show as if they'd all been made millionaires. RTE / National Lottery FTW on this occassion.
