Just to become more informed with the gardai work I would like to ask a question.Me and my friends were walking down a lane way last night not being too noisy just drinking cans. The gardai spotted us and took our details, they said nothing was going to happen but I would like to know why did they need to take our details? (obviously I didnt want to question their work at the timewill it come up in garda vetting in the future?)
    thanks

It's illegal to drink in public I believe. They probably took your details in case anything was reported in the area later on and so that there's a record there if you get pulled again.

(I'm not a Garda, these are just my thoughts on it)

Depend on the lane, time of night etc. Could be several reasons but i'd say just wrong place at wrong time...as in the Garda thought why are these chaps here at this time, in this lane drinking cans so he took your details in case anything happened later on. Dont take it as an insult or anything, this is a common accurance.

Standard practice to take people details when an offence as been committed such as ye had done - drinking alcohol in public. Was the cans confiscated from ye?

If ye were told nothing was going to come of it then you should be grand. Your details were probably not recorded on PULSE.
