How does eveybody make sure their laptop doesn't get covered in beer or knocked over during sets? im planning to use my laptop with an edirol controller and put my guitar through it as well with a UA-25 because i play guitar and keyboards in a band, and im wondering what the best way is to place everything for safety and easy use.

i use a macbook for both live stuff and composing so i cant afford to have it damaged during a gig! what do ye all do?

I just look after it, mine is the last thing setup and 1st thing packed down and away....

no drinks around it at all!! and usually crowd is to far to get anywhere near it :)

Just make sure the guys in the band realise its there and that the stage is level etc... all pretty much common sense.

We have a pretty energetic front man and do 4-7 nights a week so I just have my routine with it but it helps that the boys are concious that its there all the time too...

Good luck nice to hear someone else running todays technology on stage here :D

In my band we use a macbook too in our live sets too,
usually set it up on a keyboard stand with a piece of wood across it (lovingly referred to as "the ironing board") that put in a relatively safe spot on stage works fine for us - and there is five fairly lively members in the band!

+1. 'wets' of any description are forbidden from being placed anywhere near my lappy or the table I'm working on while I'm performing and the stage manager is asked to remove any bottles, glasses, cups or food/drink containers from the entire stage area before I start setting up. sounds right wing? you bet. ego? no, the equipment is too important to me.

if it was a mac ..... that would be different, they could hold the wet t-shirt competition right next to me :D
