Mid-level Tournaments

Having seen The Merrion, Cool Hand Lukes & others go down the toilet
and watching the Sporting Emporium in the process of sinking into oblivion,
it strikes me that no matter how much poker players pretent otherwise
the quality of a venues tournament structures matter very little.
What draws players in seems to be driven by an accessible buy-in
relative to individual pockets followed by the size of the potential prize.

The biggest draws in terms of numbers are Fridays & Monthly in the Fitz
& Mondays/Thursdays in the Jackpot. All seem to attract 80+ regularly.
Both the Fitz events run on 25 minute clocks and degenerate into
push fests as soon as the lower money is reached, sometimes earlier.
    The Jackpot events are a €5 re-buy & a €20 f/o with 2.5k starting stack.
Truthfully the appeal of the Fitz is that you're guaranteed a crowd
& the Jackpot attracts the student/welfare crowd on the basis of price.

I'm not in any way suggesting that people are wrong to think that way,
they are entitled to spend there spare cash however they see fit.
However if a new club were to open in Dublin, and one inevitably will,
is guaranteed prize pools the only way to get mid level buy-in (€50-€100)
tournaments up and running & attracting more than 30 runners?
