I'm not an avid NFL fan but I'd like to get an NFL jersey (are they called jerseys or shirts?). I was in America on co-op years ago and a native told me that the replica jerseys are rubbish and that the real thing is silly money. Is this true?

Is there anywhere I can get a non-fake jersey? It doesn't have to be the latest one. I tried eBay but hear there are a lot of fakes. Any feedback greatly appreciated :)

Hey the best place to buy is nflshop.com
they ship to ireland and the prices are decent.
I have used them for years no problem.

There is a fair amount of difference between replica and authentic.
But the replicas are good tough material etc. The only thing that youd want ot watch is how often your washing it etc cause the print will weaken after a year or so.

Eastbay do a lot of sales so their prices can be competitive, in the outlet store in particular. They also do regular discounts for orders

Eastbay are not the same as the NFL.com online store. They both get their products from Reebok and have the same parent comapny. But are run by totally different people. All the Jerseys sold on Eastbay are official and in fact sometimes the NFL.com store can be the dearest and their delivery costs are a joke unless you live in the US.

As someone mentioned before there are 3 kinds:

Replica: Low end jerseys single stitched with printed numbers

Premier EQT: a mic between the replica and Authentic. Has stitched on numbers and logos but ligthish material similar to the replica but has got double stiched shoulders

Authentic: Same as the game worn jerseys. Durable material but alot thinker than the previous two and professionally stitched and heavier numbers than Premier. Made to be worn on field.

EDIT: In fact NFLshop.com is no longer part of the Footlocker Inc Parent Company so if fact Eastbay and the NFLshop have no relation at all anymore. They both get supplied by Reebok though and carry the NFL License.

Im quite relaxed thank you :D and I gave him more info on the 3 types of jerseys on offer to him. Gives him a better idea what is on offer to him and why there is a big price difference between all 3.

I'd agree wtih the "native" that the OP ran into. The replica jerseys are a bit crap. I like having numbers sewn on rather than screen printed. However, the authentic jerseys are a bit much to pay for a piece of clothing so I prefer the Premier EQT. You're also generally assured that if someone is describing their jersey as Premier EQT, that it's the real deal and not a fake as the fakers try to imitate Authentic jerseys and not Premier EQTs.
